NEC TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES NEW POWERMATE DESKTOP PCs

(Boxborough, Mass., June 1, 1994) -- Building on its tradition of
delivering desktop systems of superior design to its demanding customers,
NEC Technologies, Inc. (NECT) today announced new models of its widely
acclaimed PowerMate line of powerful general business desktop PCs. The
PowerMate series is part of the NECT family of PCs, which also includes
the Image series of fast graphics PCs, Ready multimedia PCs and the
expandable Express servers.

The new NECT PowerMate PCs have been developed for general business
customers who require powerful, no-compromise desktop PC performance but
who prefer to select and install their own software. Because PowerMate
systems are delivered without pre-installed "edutainment"-type software,
they are able to deliver the best price/performance in their class.

PowerMate D/M Series

PowerMate D/M Series desktop computers build upon the powerful
graphics-technology expertise of NEC Technologies. For example, PowerMate
systems feature video cache RAM (VCR) technology which yields higher
resolution for superior image sharpness, more colors for richer images and
higher refresh rates for less flicker. All systems feature one megabyte of
video RAM expandable to 2MB, the highest available in this category. VCR
technology enables PowerMate systems to deliver VRAM performance at DRAM
prices.

PowerMate systems deliver clearly superior graphics performance, which is
optimized when coupled with NEC Technologies MultiSync monitors and
MultiSpin CD-ROM readers.

PowerMate systems are offered in desktop (D) or minitower (M) styles. The
PowerMate M was developed in response to customer requests for compact,
small-footprint systems that fit neatly under modular office shelving, on
the floor beside the desk or on the desktop.

NEC, the inventor of local bus video, now introduces integrated VL local
bus video with a BitBLT graphics accelerator for superior graphics. Hard
drive sizes range from 270MB to 420MB. Pre-installed software is MS-DOS
6.21 and Windows 3.1.

* Model 4100M features the ultrafast Intel 486DX4 CPU
  running at 100MHz.
* Models 466D and 466M are delivered with the 486DX2/66.
* Model 433D comes standard with the Intel 486SX/33 CPU.
* RAM is 4MB standard (8MB on 4100M), expandable to 128MB.

The PowerMate D/M Series offers the ultimate in investment protection with
a three-pronged approach: impressive upgradeability, ample expansion
capacity and industry-leading warranty protection.

Upgradeability: Users can take full advantage of a ZIF (zero insertion
force) socket that allows upgradeability all the way to the next
generation of Intel Over-Drive processors based on Intel Pentium
technology.

Plug 'n Play expansion: When the system is configured with a future "Plug
'n Play" compatible operating system such as Windows "Chicago, "Plug 'n
Play" boards are automatically configured by the system upon installation.
This means PowerMate enables users to be up and running quickly with new,
sophisticated options, PowerMate D/M systems feature two serial ports with
fast transfer rates and an enhanced high-speed parallel port that supports
both ECP and EPP protocols.

Moreover, PowerMate systems accommodate up to four storage devices in
desktops and five in minitower styles, enabling users to add a CD-ROM
reader, tape backup, or additional hard disk storage to the standard
1.44MB 3.5" diskette drive. PowerMate D/M Series systems also offer four
ISA slots and one shared VL/ISA slot for maximum flexibility when
selecting expansion cards. Furthermore, PowerMate products are Energy-Star
compliant.

Warranty Protection

NECT offers the strongest warranty available: one year on-site service,
plus two years through an NECT-Authorized service centers. NECT also
offers no-charge, toll-free telephone product support, and bulletin board
access.

"Our newest PowerMate systems offer traditional NECT quality,
sophistication and support, plus the speed, hard drive capacity, and CPU
power that users demand," said Michael Everett, marketing manager for
NEC's desktop business group.
