NEC TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES NEW READY SERIES OF MULTIMEDIA PCs

(Boxborough, Mass., June 1, 1994) -- Continuing its tradition of delivering
meticulously designed desktop solutions to its demanding customers, NEC
Technologies, Inc. (NECT) today announced new Ready Series of multimedia
PCs for small office/home office users. The Ready series is part of the
NECT family of PCs, which also includes the Image series of fast graphics
PCs, PowerMate general business computers and expandable Express servers.

Ready Overview

The new NECT Ready systems have been developed for small office/home office
customers who require a range of systems that deliver high-quality
graphics performance and are preloaded with popular software.

In developing the Ready series, NECT leveraged its expansive graphics
expertise to produce systems with superior graphics. Ready systems feature
video cache RAM (VCR) technology for superior image sharpness, richer
images and less flicker, all of which are critical for multimedia users.
All systems feature one megabyte of video RAM expandable to 2MB, the
highest available in this category.

Systems also include NECT MultiSpin CD-ROM 3Xi readers. Users who add NECT
MultiSync monitors achieve truly optimal graphics performance.

The Ready 433D, based on the Intel 486SX/33 (upgradeable to OverDrive
technology), offers 4MB of RAM, a 270MB hard drive, industry-leading NECT
dualspeed CD-ROM technology, Creative Labs SoundBlaster technology (plus
microphone and stereo speakers) and NECT's exclusive ReadyRemote Service
for immediate diagnostic evaluation by the NECT Technical Support Team --
right from the user's office or home.

The Ready 433D, like other new ready systems, offers superior graphics
performance thanks to NECT Accelerated VL local bus video. The system is
delivered with MS-DOS, Windows 3.1, PFS WindowWorks, America OnLine and
CompuServe, Quicken for Windows Special Editing and Compton's Interactive
Encyclopedia.

The Ready 466D offers a 340MB hard drive and an Intel 486DX2/66, plus the
functionality of the 433D. The Ready 466M adds a 420MB hard drive, 486/DX2
computing power in a remarkably convenient, small-footprint upgradeable
minitower style industry-leading NEC MultiSpin triple-speed CD-ROM
technology plus wave table and ASP upgradeable sound technology.

The 4100M utilizes Intel 486/DX4 clock-tripling computing power, and like
the 466M, is delivered in an upgradeable minitower style. In addition to
the other features noted for the 466M, the 4100M comes with 8MB of RAM,
standard.

Ready Features

All models of the new Ready systems offer multimedia capability --
including some of the latest multimedia software which an increasing
number of customers demand. ' There has been an incredible increase in the
demand for small business multimedia systems," said David Merrick,
multimedia PC marketing manager. "Multimedia is seeing vastly increased
use in education on entertainment for the home and as a true asset in
small business as well."

Ready systems are delivered in desktop (D) or minitower (M) styles. The
minitower was developed din response to customer requests for a compact,
small-footprint system that fits neatly under modular shelving on the
floor beside the desk or on the desktop with a small footprint.

The Ready Series offers the ultimate in investment protection with a
three-pronged approach: impressive upgradeability, ample expansion
capacity and industry-leading warranty protection..

Upgradeability: Users can take full advantage of a ZIP (zero insertion
force) socket that allows upgradeability all the way to the next
generation of Intel Over-Drive processors based on Intel Pentium
technology.

Plug n' Play expansion: When the system is configured with a future "Plug
n' Play" compatible operating system such as Windows "Chicago," "Plug 'n
Play" boards are automatically configured by the system upon installation.
This means Ready enables users to be up and running quickly with new,
sophisticated options. Ready systems feature two serial ports and an
enhanced high-speed parallel port.

Moreover, ready systems accommodate up to four storage devices in desktops
and five in minitower configurations, enabling users to add a tape backup,
or additional hard disk storage to the standard 1.44MB 3.5" diskette
drive. Ready systems also offer four ISA slots and one shared VL/ISA slot
for maximum flexibility when selecting expansion cards.

"Our newest Ready systems offer traditional NEC quality and sophistication
in design and manufacturing, plus the speed, hard drive capacity, ad CPU
power that users demand," said Merrick.

Warranty Protection

To back its highly reliable Ready systems, NECT offers a strong warranty:
one year on-site service plus two years through a NECT authorizes service
center. NECT also offers no-charge, toll-free telephone product support
and Bulletin Board access.
