NEW LOW-COST SOFTBLASTER SOFTWARE DUPLICATION SYSTEM FOR SCSI HARD DISK AND
TAPE DRIVES

Low-cost, Entry-level Unit Duplicates Software for Disk, Tape and Optical
Drives

Los Gatos, CA -- June 20, 1994 -- Greystone Peripherals, the leader in
affordable software duplication systems and PCMCIA accessories, announced
another in its series of software duplication systems. The Model SB-600
SoftBlaster is a low-cost turnkey standalone system designed to load data
and programs onto disk, tape and optical drives which use the small
computer system interface (SCSI). The system software runs on any IBM or
compatible personal computer. An ASPI-compliant SCSI host adapter card is
included with the system, along with cabling, power supply, documentation
and software.

The SCSI SoftBlaster allows the copying of data or programs from one master
to up to six target drives. Copying is performed on a byte-by-byte basis
for an exact duplicate of the original. The unit will copy disks to disks
and tapes to tapes, and can be used to copy a marginal disk or transcribe
tapes from one medium to another. User-selectable options allow the data
to be verified as it is written, and to choose block ranges to copy, as
well as the low-level format of the drives to a factory-new condition.

"There is a strong demand for a low-cost, entry-level software program
loading by OEMs, resellers and contract manufacturers for SCSI based
systems using disk, tape and optical drives," said John Usher, vice
president of sales and marketing for Greystone. "The new SoftBlaster is an
economical, easy-to-use solution that quickly pays for itself."

The unit's ease and simplicity of operation using menu-driven commands
means it can be operated by unskilled personnel for lower labor costs.
During operation, disk copying proceeds until the last block is
encountered on either the source or target disk. This allows copying of
part of a large disk to a smaller, or copying of an entire small disk to a
larger one. Copy operation can be interrupted at any time by simply
pressing any key on the PC keyboard.

In tape-to-tape copying, the target is written in the same format as the
source, with regard to block size, filemarks, etc. A tape copy ends when
the End of Tape mark is encountered on the source tape. Tape drives may
also be copied from 9-track to 8mm, mm, and other formats.

Copying must be between devices of the same type -- disk-to-disk or
tape-to-tape. An automatic error detection feature aborts copying if any
errors are encountered during operation. In the case of multiple targets,
any errors encountered on a particular device, copying to that device is
aborted, while copying continues to all other targets.

The SB-600 SoftBlaster supports the ANSI X3T9 SCSI-2 standard, which
provides for sustained SCSI data transfer rates of up to 10MHz synchronous
(fast SCSI); 5MHz synchronous (normal SCSI), and 6MHz asynchronous. The
unit also supports fast and wide 16-bit SCSI operation.

The SoftBlaster provides distributors, systems integrators, software
manufacturers and disk, tape and optical drive manufacturers with a
cost-effective way to approach higher margin, application-level markets.
Usher added, "Everyone is attracted by the value-added potential of
specially configured systems and subsystems, and now a tool is available
that will permit them to offer complete, turnkey systems with all
applications level programming installed and ready for customer use."

The SB-600 SCSI DataBlaster unit is available now, and includes cabling,
connectors and operating instructions. The SB-600 is priced at $2,595.00.
The low-cost SoftBlaster measures 5.5-inches deep by 9.0-inches wide by
4.0-inches high, and weighs 10 pounds.

Greystone's family of DataBlaster systems also support software duplication
for hard drives with other interfaces. The units are available in either
standalone or up to 56 systems under multiplexed PC host control for
PCMCIA, IDE or SCSI systems.

Greystone Peripherals, Inc., founded in 1992, is led by PC and peripheral
industry veterans George Robinson and John Usher. The company designs,
manufactures and markets computer peripherals. In addition to the
SoftBlaster and DataBlaster products, its CardDock universal PC Card
reader/writer is targeted to the PCMCIA market. The company is located at
