SoftArc and Apple Join Forces to Bring Information Superhighway to Kids
Grades K-12

--FirstClass Communication System Now Bundled With Apple Workgroup Servers
to Provide Schools With E-mail, Conferencing and Internet Access--

SCARBOROUGH, Ontario, June 14, 1994--SoftArc Inc., a leading developer and
manufacturer of enterprise-wide, cross-platform group communication
software, today announced a software bundle with Apple Computer, Inc.
Effective immediately, Apple will bundle SoftArc's FirstClass server
package with its Apple Workgroup Server (AWS) 60 and 80 models. Called the
Apple Education Series Communications Bundle, the hardware and software
electronic communication product will be offered exclusively to the K-12
education market.

The Communications Bundle is designed to streamline communications within
schools and between entire school communities. Students can collaborate on
projects and share class notes, even when they are not in the same
classroom. School administrators can have direct access to student
records, curriculum guidelines, budgets and staff information. Teachers
can send memos, bulletins, schedules, questions and meeting notes to one
another. And parents can access the system remotely to pick up homework
assignments, read school news and exchange messages with faculty.

"We are proud to be working with Apple for the important K-12 market,"
commented Steven Asbury, president of SoftArc. "FirstClass is rapidly
being adopted by worldwide organizations such as KPMG-Peat Marwick,
General Electric, Dupont, Eastman Kodak and others, but the education
market is where SoftArc got its start--and it has remained one of our
highest priorities."

"While FirstClass is a powerful communications product, it is very easy to
learn and use, even for kids," continued Asbury. "There couldn't be a
better place for people to learn how to maneuver the Information
Superhighway than in the classroom at a young age."

The Communications Bundle will be sold in two parts: a server and a user
license. A 25-MHz AWS 60 with FirstClass server software is priced at
$2,599. A 33-MHz AWS 80 with FirstClass is $6,389 (prices include setup
and connection to a school's existing network). Apple is offering a choice
of two FirstClass user license packages with the Communications Bundle: a
100 regular user pack or a 250 regular user pack. Apple and SoftArc both
offer identical special educational prices on user licenses--the 100 user
package is available at $895 (normally $2,495) and the 250-user pack is
$1,495 (normally $5995). Later this summer, Apple plans to offer customers
the option of adding one of SoftArc's existing FirstClass Internet
gateways for private mail, mail lists and Usenet news groups.

"Our goal is to make the creation and sharing of information accessible to
entire school communities--students, teachers, administrators and
parents," explained John Santoro, Apple's K-12 networking product line
manager. "FirstClass is an excellent program because the application
supports both the high and low-end Macintosh computers and Windows
machines more often found in classrooms. Features such as conferencing,
cross-platform chatting, customizable interfaces, on-line functions and
optional Internet gateways are just some of the advanced options that
differentiate FirstClass from its competition."

FirstClass is a cross-platform, enterprise-wide group communication system
that integrates state-of-the-art e-mail with group conferencing, access to
existing corporate databases, forms processing, real-time typed
discussions and on-line communications functions. FirstClass offers the
same ease of use, functionality and robust performance over network or
modern, and operates in Macintosh, Windows, DOS, OS/2 and terminal
emulation environments. FirstClass is available in 12 different languages
and is used by business, educational institutions, government and private
individuals in more than 30 countries worldwide. SoftArc's installed user
base is approximately 1,000,000 (mailboxes sold) and growing. The Company
is headquartered in Scarborough, Ontario.
