WHAT IS TECHNETIUM?

Technetium 1.5 for Windows 3.1 is an X-Windows style menuing system.
Technetium provides users with fast program launching from within any
application. The menus are very configurable. You may specify the colors,
font, and fill pattern for the menu. Nest groups within groups. Icons
(shrinkable) may be placed in the menus for both items and groups.
Technetium comes with a menu editor supporting drag-n-drop menu additions
and clipboard operations. There is no text file to edit. Technetium also
includes menu "ghosting" facility, which allows you to dynamically shadow
a set of directories with a menu. Technetium may function as a stand-in
for Program Manager. Hot Keys may be assigned to programs and the keyboard
may be used for menu navigation. Using the Technetium, you will be able to
add and delete file associations, quickly launch applications using a fast
launch option, exit windows in four different ways, and set certain
Windows options which Control Panel omits, like Help colors, system font,
and icon font. These are but a few of the features included in Technetium
1.5.

WARNING

Technetium has a group limit of ~30 groups, depending on the number of
programs in each group. This limitation is due to Microsoft's 64KB barrier
for the USER dynamic link library menu heap. If you are planning on
migrating or creating more than ~30 groups, please do not use this
software. This program has been thoroughly tested using 25 groups of 50
items each.

WHERE CAN I GET IT!

Tech is available at the CICA site via anonymous ftp, at
ftp.cica.indiana.edu. Check the index in the pub/pc/win3 directory for a
file called TECH15.ZIP or look in pub/pc/win3/uploads. I will also make
this program available to those of you without ftp capability. Just drop
me a line at AriasG@Colorado.edu and I'll uuencode the archive to you,
provided you can uudecode it at your end. Be sure to take a look at the
README.TXT file for installation instructions.

WHAT IF I HAVE PROBLEMS?

Please drop me a line ! I'll be more than glad to help you out, and hear
you out, if you want to make comments about this program in a constructive
manner. I'm at the following address over the internet :
AriasG@colorado.edu

Be certain to tell me what you were doing when the problem occurred, what
other software was running at the time, system resource figures, and the
address/module name of any GPFs. A Doctor Watson log would also help, for
those of you with the 3.1 Windows Resource Kit.

There is a Help Topic in the file describing troubleshooting and such. Look
for the "Panic Button" topic.

PLEASE SUPPORT TECHNETIUM

This is the first and last time I'll ask you to support my work. I have
placed no delay screens which must be cleared in this software. The only
difference between the registered and unregistered versions is
personalization of the software, and enrollement in the registered users'
upgrade program. If you like this product, and find it makes your life in
Windows less stressful, please support it. See the REGISTER.TXT file in
the archive for registration instructions. Act soon to take advantage of a
special reduced rate for registration. Thank you for reading!
