NEC INTRODUCES VERSA S SERIES OF SMALL, LIGHTWEIGHT "NO COMPROMISE"
NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS

(Boxborough, Mass., June 20, 1994) -- Meeting the needs of highly mobile
professionals who want a high-performance notebook in a reduced weight,
NEC Technologies, Inc. (NECT) today introduces the Versa S Series, a new
line of notebook computers with the functionality and power of
full-featured notebooks but in a small, lightweight package, striking a
perfect balance between performance and portability.

"Many on-the-go users want full notebook functionality at the lightest
possible weight," said Bob Levin, director of marketing for NECT' s
Portable Systems Group. "When we started developing the Versa S Series,
that was our objective. Our Versa S is a 'no compromise' notebook computer
that delivers traditional Versa-class performance at up to 50 MHz, plus,
it has a choice of 9.5-inch high-quality displays, a large keyboard and
substantial storage capacity. All of which are very popular among users
and a rarity among small notebooks."

The Versa S is designed for executives, sales representatives and other
mobile professionals whose frequent travel schedules make them
particularly concerned about weight. Marketing managers, journalists,
researchers and students will find the lightweight Versa S particularly
easy to use because it offers the unusual combination of a small size but
a large, easy-to-use keyboard and a large 9.5" screen. The Versa S
notebook's active-matrix TFT color display or enhanced dual-scan STN color
display are expected to be particularly attractive to executives and sales
reps because both screens are easy to read and provide rich, vibrant color
which makes them highly effective in presentations.

To maximize their investment in their Versa S notebook, users can attach an
external monitor, printer and keyboard/mouse, which lets the Versa S
double as a desktop computer.

Design Philosophy

Offered in both color and monochrome versions, the Versa S weighs only 4.2
Lbs. for mono, 4.7 lbs. for DSTN color and 5.0 lbs. for TFT color. Making
the monochrome model NECT's lightest notebook ever. Its slim profile (just
1.4" in the monochrome version) and small footprint (10.8" x 8.3") enable
the Versa S notebook to slide neatly and easily into any portfolio case or
briefcase.

* Choice of Three Displays

Versa S systems are delivered in a choice of three full-size 9.5" displays,
two of which are color -- active-matrix TFT or enhanced dual-scan STN with
quick cursor response. A monochrome display also is available. The 9.5"
display size is extraordinary for a small notebook computer. Versa S
notebooks also feature local bus video with 256 colors at 640 x 480
resolution on color models and 64 shades of gray on the monochrome model.

* Large Keyboard

The Versa S comes with a standard large 80-key keyboard with full-travel
keys. The keyboard features an integral, easy-to-use Versa SurePoint
pointing device.

* Power Features

Versa S was developed around the Intel SL-Enhanced i486SX and DX2 CPUs
operating at up to 50MHz. Cache is 8KB standard. The DX2 CPU has a
built-in math coprocessor. To enable users to achieve maximum battery
run-time, Versa S delivers three levels of power management -- off,
custom, and high. Each level controls inactivity time-outs for
predetermined system components. Depending on model, power management
usage and configuration, users can achieve from two to four hours of
run-time on a single battery charge.

* Expanded Interfaces

In response to many customer requests, Versa S offers integrated PCMCIA
slots - two Type II or one Type III -- which makes Versa S the only
notebook in its class to offer full-solution PCMCIA access. PCMCIA
accessibility enables users to custom-tailor Versa S to their specific
needs -- and to change the system as their needs change.

Wireless communication is made possible through VersaConnect Cellular
Communication Upgrade Kits. For desktop connectivity, NECT and Traveling
Software, Inc. have joined forces to offer all Versa S customers a special
price on LapLink Wireless), the latest in wireless file transfer
technology. Thanks to its PCMCIA connectivity, Versa S enables corporate
"road warriors" to always be in touch with the home office or have instant
access to electronic data stored on mainframes, mini servers or mail.
Versa S also offers a full complement of ports -- enhanced parallel,
serial, SVGA, PS/2-style keyboard/mouse and floppy drive.

* Storage and Disk Drives

Versa S systems offer 210MB or 260MB hard disk drives and a standard 3 1/2"
1.44MB external floppy disk drive. The 210MB drive is upgradeable to
260MB, and both hard disk drives will be upgradeable to larger sizes as
they become available.

All Versa S systems are delivered with preloaded software and backup
diskettes, standard.

Free Battery Promotion

With the launch of the Versa S, NEC is offering customers an opportunity to
receive a second NiMH battery, approximately a $99 value, for free. This
second NiMH battery will extend the operating power of this already
powerful small notebook computer. To receive the free second battery,
customers must complete and send a "Get Charged Up!" promotional coupon
with a copy of their sales receipt to the address indicated by September
30, 1994. This promotion runs from June 27, 1994 through August 31, 1994
to end-user customers.

Warranty, Availability, and Pricing

As with all Versa models, a standard return-to-factory, three-year limited
warranty on parts and labor is included with Versa S notebooks. Tailored
to meet the needs of the mobile professional, NECT's UltraCare Warranty
Service Program offers repair service within one business day in the U.S.
and Canada, and is available to users at no additional charge with product
registration for the first year of Versa S ownership. For international
travelers, UltraCare service also is available in 26 countries outside of
North America. To register, users must complete and mail or fax the
electronic product registration hot loaded on their Versa S system.

Versa S Series notebook computers are available in both the United States
and Canada through NECT's network of authorized dealers. Estimated selling
prices are:
