trade event for new technology wrapped up its three-day run, June 28-30,
at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. The show and
conference attracted 120,283 attendees, who jammed all four levels of the
Convention Center.

New technology at PC EXPO encompassed pen-based and voice-activated

(PDAs), CD-ROMs, online services, and the entire spectrum of personal
computing and converging technologies. Adobe Systems, AST, Borland,
Compaq, Dell. Digital Equipment Corp., Gateway 2000, Hertz Computer,
Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Lotus, Mitsubishi, Motorola, NEC, Okidata,

PC EXPO opened June 28 with a major keynote presentation by Andrew S.

Paris, Munich, London and Birmingham in the UK, and Bear Steams in New
York City. Dr. Grove described "The Ubiquitous PC" -- the proliferation of
the PC as the information appliance of the 90s -- affecting every facet of
business, entertainment and society.

During PC EXPO, the I2 Advance Conference explored issues in the coming
convergence of computer networking, telecommunications, multimedia and
video. The I2 Technology Center, on the show floor provided hands-on
demonstrations from companies such as Apple Computer, Amusitronix,
IIN/Redgate Communications, NYNEX, PictureTel and Scientific Atlanta. The
I2 Technology Center and Advance Conference were previews of Interactive

Specialized pavilions at PC EXPO focused on dynamic sectors of the industry
such as mobile computing, Windows applications, multimedia, and technology
for the information systems buyers from New York's financial community --
who attended the show in force.

Running concurrently with PC EXPO was the Intel World Chess Grand Prix,
sponsored with the Professional Chess Association (PCA), featuring 16
international grandmasters squaring off across the chess board. The
tournament was dramatically staged, with expert commentary, large
projection screens, and computers tracking the moves of each player for
the audience.
