Sigma Designs and NEC Corporation Announce Availability of MPEG Playback
Board for NEC PC-9800 Personal Computers

Digital Video Playback Board from NEC to Ship in August

FREMONT, Calif., July 14, 1994--Sigma Designs, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIGM), the
industry leader in low-cost MPEG products for the PC, today announced the
availability of NEC Corporation's Digital Video Playback Board, an MPEG
playback board for PC-9800 Series Personal Computers. NEC Corporation is a
global leader in advanced communications, computer and electronic device
products and systems. The result of a six month joint development effort
between Sigma Designs and NEC Corporation of Japan, the Digital Video
Playback Board is targeted at the Japanese PC market. Shipments of the new
MPEG board will commence in mid-August.

Developed specifically for the NEC PC-9800 Series Personal Computers, the
Digital Video Playback Board is based on Sigma Designs' ReelMagic Moving
Picture Experts Group (MPEG) playback technology for IBM-compatible
personal computers. The Digital Video Playback Board delivers full-screen,
TV-quality digital video playback combined with GD-quality digital audio
from a standard CD-ROM. Supporting 640 x 480 and 640 x 400 resolutions at
30 frames per second, the Digital Video Playback Board allows interactive,
live action video to be integrated into software applications, thus adding
a new dimension of realism. A plethora of new software titles compatible
with the MPEG standard are available or under development for the Digital
Video Playback Board.

"We are very excited that NEC, the leading force in the Japanese PC market,
has embraced our ReelMagic MPEG technology. NECs commanding installed base
in the Japanese market with over 50% market penetration, enables us to
deliver the benefits of MPEG to a broader range of users," said Thinh
Tran, chairman and CEO of Sigma Designs. "In addition, we believe the
immense popularity of Video CD feature films, music videos and Karaoke CDs
in the Japanese market will help drive demand for this breakthrough
technology."
