SSN-21 SEAWOLF
THE SEQUEL TO 688 ATTACK SUB

Now Available for IBM CD-ROM

SAN MATEO, Calif., June 24,1994--Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), a global
leader in the interactive entertainment industry, announces the release of
SSN-21 Seawolf for IBM CD-ROM, the most advanced submarine simulation to
date.

SSN-21 Seawolf is the sequel to 688 Attack Sub, one of Electronic Arts'
biggest hits in the PC marketplace. The game was coded by John Ratcliff
who wrote the original, and produced for Electronic Arts by veteran
simulations producer Paul Grace.

This game features the real-life in-design SSN-21 Seawolf Attack sub. The
U.S. Navy initially combined five major programs in order to establish the
Seawolf class: the 688 program, the new design SSN, SUBACS (Submarine
Advanced Combat System), submarine electronic systems, and attack
submarine research and development. But, since the Naval Sea Systems
Command has more lately undergone budget cuts and the pattern of future
military needs has changed in recent years, the scale of this operation
has declined and the Seawolf is still on the drawing board.

However, the U.S. Navy states that the Seawolf will be "the fastest,
deepest-diving, most heavily-armed United States submarine ever put to
sea", and predicts that it will have three times the mission effectiveness
of the 688. The SSN-21 will be equipped with a new conformal array sonar
and eight torpedo tubes and it will carry Harpoons, Tomahawks, Mark 48
ADCAP torpedoes and Sea Lance missiles and mines.

All of this, of course, makes for a great simulation: Economic, ethnic, and
political unrest in the former Soviet Union are beginning to deepen, with
intense pressure from Red Army generals upon the military stability of the
various Eastern bloc nations. After a military coup, a new politburo
declares the reunification of the USSR and all diplomatic ties with the
West are cut.

Meanwhile, another coup has deposed Fidel Castro in Cuba, and a
U.S.-recognized government seizes power. As border skirmishes break out at
spark points along the perimeter of the USSR, a Soviet task force sails
from Archangel bound for Cuba. With strict orders from military leaders to
avoid nuclear confrontation, World War m begins.

SSN-21 Seawolf is a game of stealth and cunning, fully recreating the
atmosphere of underwater warfare with much of the game action happening
within the sonar room. More than 40 types of surface ships and 25
submarines can be identified individually from their own unique sonar
signatures.

Over 100 sound samples are featured in state-of-the-art 16-bit stereo
sound, such as torpedoes loading and firing, sonar pings, the waterfall
room, and even whale songs. The musical score supports an extensive range
of sound boards, including Roland SoundCanvas and LAPC-1, Adlib,
Soundblaster 8- and 16-bit boards, Gravis Ultrasound, and Proaudio
Spectrum. Electronic Arts strongly urges players to use a good pair of
headphones when playing SSN-21 Seawolf - for a true feeling of 3D
audio-imaging and greatly enhanced gameplay.

In periscope view, the player can see a variety of different animated water
effects and backgrounds as well as thunder and lightning. Stunning
digitized explosions, both underwater and surface, graphically illustrate
the player's strike rate against mission objectives.

Thirty-three missions make up the overall campaign, with a random start
mechanism ensuring variety of gameplay. Training missions are included, as
are modem and network play capabilities.
