PRE AND POSTPROCESSOR FOR MADYMO USES ADVANCED VISUALIZATION TO CUT
MODELING TIME IN HALF AND PRODUCE PRESENTATION-QUALITY RESULTS

EASi Engineering, Inc. announces EASi-MAD, a software package that adds
enhanced pre and postprocessing capabilities to MADYMO, the human
body/mechanical system simulation program from TNO Road-Vehicles Research
Institute, Delft, The Netherlands. Using advanced visualization
techniques, EASi-MAD's preprocessor speeds the process of creating MADYMO
models by replacing keystrokes with graphical operations. Its
postprocessor expands on the output capabilities of MADYMO, producing a
wide range of presentation-ready results. Adding EASi-MAD to MADYMO
installations will dramatically boost productivity and make a powerful
occupant simulation system even more powerful.

EASi-MAD is a complete user environment dedicated to MADYMO. Available on
most UNIX-based workstations, EASi-MAD provides convenient, mouse-driven
menus and picks to guide the user through the necessary steps to create,
process and view MADYMO data. Dataset definition, submission of datasets
to MADYMO, and kinematic and time-history post-processing of results are
integrated into this one easy-to-use package.

The preprocessing features of EASi-MAD can reduce the time needed to create
a MADYMO dataset by at least 50% for several reasons. One, the
preprocessor provides instant visual feedback. Working in MADYMO in the
past has been done with no visual feedback; the user entered text
information through the keyboard and never saw the created model until the
analysis was run. With EASi-MAD, an immediate 3D wireframe or shaded
visual image is displayed from different directions and in multiple active
windows if so chosen. This allows verification of model accuracy before
the analysis is run. Second, the EASi-MAD preprocessor employs a graphical
user interface that replaces keystrokes with menu picks and mouse
operations. The model can be created and sized by using the mouse, as well
as by entering numeric values from the keyboard. Third, the EASi-MAD
preprocessor follows the MADYMO hierarchy. The preprocessor knows what
information MADYMO requires and in what format and automatically
translates the user's input into a correct MADYMO text file. Fourth, the
preprocessor checks for errors during the creation of the input document
and alerts the user to these before the data is submitted to analysis.

The preprocessor can import existing MADYMO data files for 3D visualization
and editing. It can create, modify, and delete all MADYMO V5.0 entities
including: inertial space, systems, force models, null systems, and joints
as well as functions, belts, airbags, planes and ellipsoids. Other
features of the preprocessor include display of MADYMO-specific functions
in spreadsheet or 2D plot format and automatic execution of the MADYMO
analysis program on the host computer.

The postprocessing portion of EASi-MAD gives users more ways to view
results than those supplied in MADYMO alone. For example, its support for
a multi-windowing environment and the ability to load multiple KINTWO,
KIN3, and time-history files (MADYMo or user defined) makes model or test
comparisons very easy. The user also may synchronize animation and/or plot
windows. Multiple windows also permit multiple views of the same file.

The postprocessor makes it possible to scale plots and also gives the user
complete control of animation speed, time step, and direction. It can
display plots and kinematics on the same file with axis labels, and for
those who need to present analysis results to others, the EASi-MAD
postprocessor generates presentation-quality PostScript files in color or
black and white.

EASi-MAD is available on most major UNIX-based computer workstations
including: Silicon Graphics, Hewlett-Packard, Sun, IBM, and DEC Alpha
systems. These workstations should be equipped with current operating
systems, 24-bit Z buffer, and a minimum of 32 megabytes of RAM.

MADYMO is a general-purpose engineering software program. It is specially
designed for the analysis of the complex dynamical response of the human
body and of mechanical systems to extreme loading conditions. MADYMo is in
use in industrial engineering departments, design offices, research
laboratories, and technical universities around the world. It has proved
itself in numerous applications, often supported by verification studies
using experimental test data. Application areas include: automotive crash
safety, train and bus interior safety, aircraft and helicopter
crash-worthiness, consumer product safety, and accident reconstruction.

Founded in 1981, EASi Engineering has a staff of over 100 professionals and
is one of the largest suppliers of computer-aided engineering services to
the automobile industry. EASi's capabilities include structural crash
simulation, occupant simulation, biomechanics, linear and nonlinear
finite-element analysis, and optimization as well as kinematics and
dynamic analysis. Additional capabilities include analysis of noise,
vibration and harshness, and alternate materials evaluation including
structural plastics and composites. The company also offers EASi-BUMPER
software which allows the material and geometry of automotive bumpers to
be analyzed and optimized in the concept phase on a personal computer
without building a prototype.
