IVI PUBLISHING AND MAYO CLINIC INTRODUCE INTERACTIVE QUARTERLY MEDICAL
JOURNAL ON CD-ROM

MINNEAPOLIS--August 19, 1994--With a click on a computer screen, a primary
care physician "meets" a hypothetical 58-year-old male who reports severe
chest pain after awakening from a sound sleep. The doctor examines the
patient, checks his records and his family history; reviews previous
medical problems; orders tests; and reviews the results--all on a personal
computer via CD-ROM.

This interactive case study is part of an innovative new medical journal on
CD-ROM called "PrimePractice," just introduced by electronic health
information publisher IVI Publishing in cooperation with Mayo Clinic.

Each issue of the quarterly journal will focus on a single subspecialty
area of interest to primary care physicians, family physicians, internists
and general practitioners and offers opportunity to earn continuing
medical education credits. "PrimePractice" will include "Hot Topics"
(articles on the latest developments in the highlighted subspecialty),
interactive case studies for physicians to hone their diagnostic skills,
and a comprehensive resource library. Throughout the disc, animations,
illustrations, audio and video are used to illustrate the comprehensive
text. All content is provided by physicians and researchers at the
highly-respected Mayo Clinic, which emphasizes healthcare education as a
means to improve patient care. In addition, content is reviewed by an
advisory panel of practicing primary care physicians.

The first issue, an update on cardiology, is now available with the order
of a one- or three-year subscription. Subsequent quarterly issues of
"PrimePractice" will focus on neurology, hypertension and vascular topics,
and pulmonary medicine. Over three years, the CD-ROM journal will cover
major areas of interest to primary care physicians.

"This multimedia journal is unlike any other medical journal or training
tool," says Dr. Philip Hagen, Mayo Clinic primary care physician who
helped develop "PrimePractice." "For example, in the case study section,
physicians can closely simulate an in-office exam, from shining a
flashlight in the patient's eye to listening to a heartbeat."

The exam is focused on an animated model of a patient that can be rotated
360 degrees. Hundreds of combinations of exams, movements and tests can be
conducted, with a full reporting of results and laboratory test costs. The
doctor's diagnosis, testing and treatment are then compared to the
diagnosis and treatment recommended by Mayo Clinic physicians.

Physicians will be able to earn up to 40 CME credits for completing a
year's subscription. Options include credit hours in Category 1 of the
Physicians Recognition Award of the American Medical Association and
prescribed credits through the American Academy of Family Physicians. Each
issue includes approximately 10 hours of material.

"PrimePractice" shows that the future is here in interactive, flexible
learning," says John McIlvaine, IVI's vice president of sales and
marketing. "Physicians have access to some of the latest information
available from Mayo Clinic. They can review the material as their
schedules permit, and earn CME credits without the time and expense of
travel."

The cardiology issue of "PrimePractice" is available now for personal
computers equipped with a CD-ROM drive and Windows software. A Macintosh
version of the first issue will be available in Fall 1994. Cost for a
charter individual annual subscription is $495. A charter three-year
subscription is $1,295. Orders can be placed by calling 800-661-6170, ext.
P100.

Minneapolis-based IVI Publishing (NASDAQ/NMS: IVIP) has introduced three
consumer healthcare CD-ROMs: "Mayo Clinic Family Health Book," "Mayo
Clinic Family Pharmacist" and "Mayo Clinic--The Total Heart." Other
healthcare titles are in development in conjunction with Mayo Clinic,
Time-Life and the Glencoe Division of Macmillan/McGraw Hill Publishing.

Mayo Clinic is a private group practice of medicine dedicated to providing
diagnosis and treatment of patient illnesses through a systematic focus on
individual patient needs. Mayo provides comprehensive hospital and
outpatient services at each of its major locations: Rochester, Minn.;
Jacksonville, Fla.; and Scottsdale, Ariz. At each site, clinical practice
is closely integrated with advanced education and research programs.
