PROXIM SHIPS SECOND GENERATION PCMCIA WIRELESS LAN ADAPTER

RangeLAN2/PCMCIA Offers the Industry's Longest Range, High Speed Wireless
LAN Adapter for Mobile Computing Applications

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., August 8, 1994 -- Proxim, Inc., the leader in
wireless local area networking, announced today that it has begun volume
commercial shipments of RangeLAN2/PCMCIA, its second generation wireless
PCMCIA-based local area networking (LAN) adapter. Based on
state-of-the-art frequency hopping spread spectrum radio technology in the
2.4 gigahertz (GHz) frequency band, the new credit card-sized wireless LAN
adapter fits into any notebook, desktop or pen-based computer equipped
with a PCMCIA Type II card slot, and supports Card and Socket Services
2.1.

Industry-Leading Throughput, Coverage and Mobility

Proxim's RangeLAN2/PCMCIA is the first wireless data product to offer the
combination of throughput, coverage and mobility suitable for office
environments that require high performance LAN connectivity and high speed
applications in vertical markets such as healthcare, manufacturing and
retail.

Throughput: RangeLAN2/PCMCIA offers a data rate of 1.6 megabits per second
(Mbps) over 15 independent channels, making 24 Mbps of network bandwidth
available in any physical space. This makes RangeLAN2/PCMCIA an ideal
platform for today's high speed network computing environments.

Coverage: The new adapter delivers the greatest range of any wireless LAN
product in its class, operating at a range of up to 500 feet in office
locations and up to 1,000 feet in open space environments. This extended
range sets the standard in the industry for cost-effective wireless
network coverage.

Mobility: With its unmatched seamless roaming capabilities and advanced
power management features, Proxim's RangeLAN2/PCMCIA represents the
premier product designed specifically for mobile computer users.

"RangeLAN2 benefits from Proxim's decade of practical experience with
radio-based data networking and two years of market exposure with our
first RangeLAN family of wireless LAN adapters," said Brian Button, vice
president of marketing at Proxim. "RangeLAN2 has been designed to perform
15-20 times the speed of our first generation products, enabling it to
meet the demands of both the general purpose office LAN environment and
higher speed vertical market applications."

"The increased speed of Proxim's new RangeLAN2/PCMCIA has enabled our
medical clinic to take an immediate step into the future with a
cost-effective portable patient records system," said Sylvia Sudermann,
programming manager for the Austin Regional Clinic which has served as one
of the many beta test sites for Proxim's new RangeLAN2 products. "Our new
system not only provides much greater efficiency, but delivers improved
service for our patients. It even keeps pace with our busiest doctors."

RangeLAN2/PCMCIA is the third product in the RangeLAN2 family released in
1994 and ships with industry standard ODI and NDIS driver interfaces that
support most network operating systems. The RangeLAN2 family includes
RangeLAN2/ISA for desktop PC and servers, and RangeLAN2/Access Point, a
NOS-independent wired-to-wireless bridge connection to Ethernet LANs. Both
RangeLAN2/ISA and RangeLAN2/Access Point began shipping earlier this year
and were the first 2.4 Ghz frequency hopping products of their type to
ship commercially. Proxim's RangeLAN2 family of products were also the
first to incorporate the high speed, frequency hopping modulation
technique approved by the IEEE 802.11 committee as part of its proposed
draft standard in March 1994.

RangeLAN2/PCMCIA is priced at $695, RangeLAN2/ISA is priced at $595, and
RangeLAN2/Access Point is priced at $1,895.

Founded in 1984, Proxim is headquartered in Mountain View, Calif. To date
the company has shipped more than 70,000 spread spectrum radio products.
Proxim's RangeLAN2 product family is distributed nationally by Tech Data.
Proxim's shares are traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the
symbol PROX.
