DCA ANNOUNCES COMMUNICATIONS MIDDLEWARE TOOL; SUPPORTS MULTIPROTOCOL
COMPUTING WITH POINT AND CLICK SIMPLICITY

QuickPeer lowers corporate investment costs of migrating to client/server
computing

ALPHARETTA, GA. -- Digital Communications Associates Inc. (DCA) today
announced QuickPeer, a communications middleware tool which allows
developers to write a distributed application once that will support a
variety of popular communications protocols, enabling corporations to
significantly cut development time and eliminate rewriting communications
code for multiple types of networks.

QuickPeer is a key element in DCA's Universal Communications Architecture
(UCA), a framework for expanding communications to facilitate the
development and integration of client/server applications for
heterogeneous network environments and provides transport-independent
support for any vendor's communications workstation software. Among its
benefits, UCA provides consistent access, features, user interface,
application programming interfaces (APIs) and development tools across
desktop platforms.

By supporting an open computing environment, QuickPeer protects corporate
investments in application development. For example, communications code
written today on SNA networks can be transported to TCP/IP or IPX networks
tomorrow. Eliminating the need to rewrite code enables developers to focus
efforts on end-user client/server applications, drastically reducing the
development backlog that has hindered the move to client/server. QuickPeer
supports a variety of communications APIs, including APPC, CPI-C, TCP/IP
sockets, IPX and NETBIOS.

"DCA understands the laborious and lengthy process involved in writing
communications code," said Kevin O'Conner, DCA's chief technology officer
and vice president, research. "With QuickPeer, DCA not only makes it
easier and faster to create communications software for more efficient
migration to client/server, it also helps corporations leverage their
investments in existing mainframe resources."

Another advantage QuickPeer offers corporations is the reduced cost of
implementing client/server systems by greatly simplifying the
communications code development process with several key features:
automatic code generation; a point-and-click design tool; and
easy-to-follow sample code templates for PC and server platforms.

QuickPeer further eases development by hiding the complexities of
communications programming. QuickPeer consolidates low level functions
into two easy-to-use abstracted APIs -- the QuickPeer API as well as the
four-verb QuickPeer EZ-API. QuickPeer's abstracted communications APIs
give developers the luxury of writing to a single API, regardless of the
underlying communications protocol. Developers are no longer required to
be experts in communications programming and can now create communications
code by simply pointing and clicking.

Developers can also benefit from QuickPeer's unique sample code templates,
the first templates designed for both the PC and host. Offered in native
languages, the templates include sample C, RPC and Cobol code for AS/400
environments, Cobol programs for IBM MVS and CICS environments as well as
C code for VAX. In addition, the templates include sample code for the
leading client/server development tools. Using the templates as a guide
for developing communications code for both PC and server platforms,
developers can quickly and easily develop distributed applications.

Another feature of QuickPeer software is SpeakEZ, a learning and testing
tool that lets developers interactively test transaction verbs for
multiple protocols in a Windows environment. SpeakEZ automatically
generates communications code that can be copied directly into the most
popular client/server development environments including Visual Basic,
Visual C++, PowerBuilder, SQLWindows or ObjectView. The tool saves
development time by enabling real-time application testing and debugging
before the final application code is

QuickPeer is the newest addition to the Irma ToolSet family of development
tools, which includes QuickApp, a communications middleware development
tool that extends today's popular client/server development tools to the
host environment. QuickApp automatically generates the appropriate
communications code for seamlessly integrating information on host-based,
terminal-oriented applications into new graphical client/server
applications. Developers can integrate data from various hosts into a
single graphical application with, in most cases, no more than two lines
of the development tool's scripting language.

QuickPeer will be available in September directly from DCA for a price of
$995 per developer. Pricing outside North America varies depending on the
local market.

Located in metro Atlanta with offices worldwide, DCA is an international
leader in providing personal computer communications solutions for host
and remote information access. DCA's host access communications software
and development tools improve business processes and leverage corporate
investments. DCA facilitates the integration of information on existing
IBM, Unisys, DEC, Unix and HP systems into new client/server applications.
DCA's software products for remote communications give users complete
access to corporate data and information services, regardless of where
they may be located.
