Info-ZIP is pleased to announce the public release of version 5.11 of its
UnZip utility. UnZip extracts zipfiles (archives ending in ".zip"), but of
course all of you already knew that.

New features in this release include:

- UnZipSFX, a self-extracting stub for prepending to zipfiles
- new -C option to match filenames case-insenstively, like
  OS/2 does
- new -v option (with no zipfile, as in "unzip -v") to show
  compilation information and environment options
- new ZipInfo -T option for printing file times in a sortable
  decimal format
- more intelligence for dealing with bad zipfiles (sometimes
also works for multi-part archives which have been concatenated
  together)
- much more complete documentation
- faster archive listings

UnZip 5.11 is available by anonymous ftp from ftp.cdrom.com and its mirrors
(currently in the OS/2 incoming directory on cdrom.com, but to be moved to
2_x/archiver and all/archiver soon). Sources and executables will also be
available from ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip after tonight. Uploads to
other sites listed in the Where file will take place over the next week or
two. Note that the uploaded executables *do* support decryption (legal to
export as long as it can't be used for encryption).

And just to clear up one little point which always seems to elude some
folks: UnZip is intended to be fully compatible with *archives* created by
PKWARE's PKZIP (or our own Zip, of course), with the exception of
multi-part and "authenticity verification" (AV) archives. It is NOT
intended to be a PKUNZIP clone and never will be. We do support a few
things not in PKUNZIP: text-file conversions, OS/2 extended attributes, 9
or 10 operating systems, free source code, :-) etc.
