JULY 25, 1994, MOBILE, AL -- XANTE Corporation introduces the
Accel-a-Writer 8200, the only laser printer to offer resolutions up to
1200x1200 dpi, the ability to print on large format pages, and the
benefits of true Adobe PostScript. This is the first printer announced by
XANTE since signing an agreement with Adobe Systems to become a licensee
in Adobe's co-development program.

Based on Canon's 16 page-per-minute LBP-BXII laser print engine, the
Accel-a-Writer 8200 is capable of printing full bleed 11" x 17" documents
as well as oversized pages up to 11.75" x 25".

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 supports 600 x 600 dpi resolution and is
user-upgradable to 800 x 800, and 1200 x 1200 dpi.

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 is designed with a high speed controller which is
built around the AMD 29030 RISC processor. It ships standard with 12 MB
RAM and is upgradable to 64 MB.

"The combination of XANTE's high resolution technology and Adobe PostScript
Level 2 software provides clear advantages for the desktop publishing
market, " said XANTE's vice president of marketing, Martin Kennedy. "We
can now provide users looking for large format, high resolution printers
something previously unavailable - the benefits and security of Adobe
PostScript software. In an industry where printers are directly tied to
day-to-day operation, true PostScript will be a great asset."

"The Accel-a-Writer 8200 is the first XANTE printer with true Adobe
PostScript Level 2 software," said Steve MacDonald, senior vice president
and general manager of Adobe's Systems Product Division. "Like Adobe,
XANTE is committed to providing printing solutions that satisfy customer
demands for high-resolution, fast print speeds and cross-platform
compatibility."

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 offers strong paper handling features. The printer
ships with an input capacity of 350 sheets from two trays and an output
capacity of 250 sheets. An optional third tray is available and can be
configured to hold as many as 500 sheets. Those who wish to print full
bleed 11" x 17" size documents and 25" gatefold spreads can now do so with
the Accel-a-Writer 8200's oversized printing capabilities. XANTE supports
oversized paper measuring up to 11.75" x 25" with a printable region of
11.69" x 24.9". This oversized paper is handled through the Accel-a-Writer
8200's 100-sheet fold down tray.

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 will be the first printer supporting XANTE's
Halftone Calibration Technology, enabling users to adjust the gamma curve
of scanned images, gray scales and other halftones when printing. This
technology addresses a common problem of images appearing too dark when
printing at higher line screens. The trade-off of printing images at
higher line screens is having fewer levels of gray, often resulting in a
darker image. Adjustments can be made to lighten the midtones, bringing
out detail lost with the fewer levels of gray, and at the same time, not
affecting parts of the image which are intended to print at completely
black or white. Changes are easily made from the printer' s front panel.

PRINTER FEATURES

Adobe PostScript Level 2 Software - The Accel-a-Writer 8200 offers the
reliability, assurance of compatibility, and high performance provided by
Adobe PostScript Level 2 software. PostScript Level 2 software offers
several benefits, including enhanced file and memory management schemes,
data compression, forms support, pattern caching, and composite font
support.

High Resolution - The XANTE Accel-a-Writer 8200 provides true 600 x 600 dpi
resolution for near typeset quality output. The 600 dpi is enhanced with
ultra fine toner to make text edges smoother, line art sharper, and
graphics cleaner. The printer can be purchased at, or upgraded later to
800 x 800, or 1200 x 1200 dpi.

The Accel-a-Writer 8200' s quality output is well suited for camera-ready
materials and final product uses such as newsletters, on demand
documentation, and engineering drawings.

Halftone Calibration Technology - The Accel-a-Writer 8200 allows the end
user to adjust the gamma curve of halftones easily from the printer's
front panel. This feature enables end users to calibrate the lightness of
halftone images, bringing out detail that can be lost when printing at
higher line screens or when dark photos have been scanned.

Paper Handling - The Accel-a-Writer 8200 supports two input sources in its
base configuration. A fold-down tray offers a 100 sheet input capacity and
can support page sizes up to 11.75" x 25". The second source is a paper
feed unit which supports the 250-sheet letter or 11 " x 17" trays, which
come standard. An optional third input source is available and can be
configured to hold up to 500 sheets.

HP PCL 5, HP-GL 7475A, and Automatic Emulation Switching - The
Accel-a-Writer 8200 ships with HP PCL 5 and HP-GL 7475A emulations for
CAD/CAE and other applications that do not currently support the
PostScript language. HP-GL plots can be printed at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi.
Also included is resident code that allows automatic switching between HP
PCL 5 and the PostScript language.

High Performance Controller Architecture - The XANTE designed controller
makes use of the AMD 29030 RISC processor and 12 MB RAM to provide high
performance printing. The printer is upgradable to 64 MB with
user-installable SIMM modules.

Simultaneous Interfacing - RS-232 serial, Centronics Parallel, and
AppleTalk interfaces are included and can all be active simultaneously for
seamless, cross platform support. Ethernet running concurrently active
EtherTalk and TCP/IP protocols is available as an option. A SCSI interface
is standard supporting external disk connection for additional font and
form storage.

Font Handling- In addition to providing a standard of 35 resident
typefaces, XANTE includes support for TrueType fonts and Adobe's Type 1
and Type 3 downloadable fonts.

TARGET MARKETS & APPLICATIONS

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 is targeted at several markets that share common
interests: high resolution output, extensive paper handling capabilities,
fast processing, and cross platform flexibility.

The principle market that is attracted to the Accel-a-Writer 8200 is the
growing desktop publishing field. Service bureaus, print shops and ad
agencies make use of the higher resolution capabilities which provide
smooth text, line art, and high quality scanned and other halftone images.
The large page size support provides flexibility in full page bleeds, 2
page spreads and gatefold spreads.

Both large and small corporations with a mixture of Macintosh, PCs, UNIX
and other workstation environments benefit from the interface flexibility.
The Accel-a-Writer 8200's print quality greatly improves newsletters,
documentation, product brochures, and other forms of literature normally
sent outside the company, often eliminating the necessity of out-of-house
printing.

Engineering environments make use of the large page format for printing
drawings, check plots and schematics. The higher resolution provides
finer, sharper detail so that small print can be more easily read and
understood. For engineering applications that do not support the
PostScript language, the Accel-a-Writer 8200 supports the HP-GL 7475A
emulation at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi.
