Adobe Systems and XANTE Corporation Announce Licensing Agreement

XANTE Joins Adobe's Co-Development Program; Introduces 16-ppm Laser Printer
with Genuine Adobe PostScript Level 2 Software

Mountain View, Calif. (July 25, 1994) (NASDAQ:ADBE) - Adobe Systems
Incorporated and XANTE Corporation today announced that they have signed
an agreement giving XANTE licensing rights to Adobe PostScript software.
As part of the agreement, XANTE is a licensee in Adobe's Co-Development
program. Adobe also announced that XANTE has introduced the XANTE
Accel-a-Writer 8200, its first printer to incorporate Adobe PostScript
Level 2 software. The 16-page-per-minute, monochrome laser printer can
handle pages up to 11.75 x 25 inches with up to 1200 x 1200 dpi
resolution, and is available now.

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 is designed for graphic artists, corporate
workgroups and engineering environments that require high resolution
output, large paper sizes and fast processing. The high quality output and
ability to print 11 x 17 inch pages and 25 inch gatefold spreads is ideal
for in-house printing of newsletters, documentation, product brochures and
other literature. With the ability to automatically switch between
PostScript language and PCL print jobs, the Accel-a-Writer 8200 is well
suited for PC, Macintosh and UNIX environments.

"We're excited to work with XANTE to develop printing solutions that
deliver high-quality, performance and cross-platform compatibility," said
Steve MacDonald, senior vice president and general manager of Adobe's
Systems Products Division. "The Accel-a-Writer 8200 with true Adobe
PostScript Level 2 software gives customers what they want --
exceptionally high resolution, fast print speeds and the capability to
print oversize formats -- all at a competitive price point."

"Our relationship with Adobe signifies XANTE's commitment to excellence in
delivering the highest quality products we can to our customers," said
Martin E. Kennedy, XANTE's president and CEO. "Because our customers have
demanded true Adobe PostScript software, delivering printers with this
technology adds the kind of value to our products that will further
enhance our position in the marketplace."

Adobe PostScript Level 2, the software featured in the Accel-a-Writer 8200,
is the world's standard imaging technology. Adobe PostScript software
offers end users several key benefits including compatibility, flexibility
and high-quality printing. The Accel-a-Writer 8200, like all Adobe
PostScript printers, works with any combination of computer, operating
system, software application or network. It can print a variety of
documents that contain any combination of text, graphics and images.
Additionally, it allows access to industry-standard Type 1 fonts and
TrueType fonts which assures high quality printing.

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 laser printer features 600 x 600 dpi resolution
that is user-upgradeable to 800 x 800 and 1200 x 1200 dpi. It is capable
of printing full bleed 11 x 17 inch pages and custom output up to 11.75 x
25 inches, and ships with two paper trays for 350-sheet capacity. The
16-ppm printer features a Canon LBP-BX II laser print engine that includes
an AMD 29030 RISC processor, 12MB RAM (upgradeable to 64MB), SCSI disk
connection and simultaneously active serial, parallel and AppleTalk
interfaces. An Ethernet connection is available as an option. The new
printer includes 35 of Adobe's Type 1 fonts and support for TrueType and
Adobe's Type 1 and Type 3 downloadable fonts.

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 is the first printer to support XANTE's Halftone
Calibration Technology which is used to prevent images from appearing too
dark when printing at higher line screens.

The Accel-a-Writer 8200 has a suggested list price of $4,495 and is
available directly through XANTE or from authorized resellers worldwide.
