Asante Joins Fast Ethernet Alliance
Company will deliver PC and Macintosh products

SAN JOSE, CALIF -- Sept. 8, 1994--Asante Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:ASNT)
Thursday announced that the company has joined the Fast Ethernet
Alliance.

The Fast Ethernet Alliance is a multi-vendor effort to promote open
standardization of 100 Megabit per second Ethernet networking technology.
Asante will be a full participating member.

Fast Ethernet technology is being standardized by the IEEE 802.3 Working
Group within its .3U (say "dot-three-you") Task Force. The technology,
known as 100BASE-T, involves running 100 Mbps (Megabit per second)
Ethernet over unshielded twisted pair, and fiber-optic cables. The Fast
Ethernet Alliance technical work has been submitted to this Task Force as
part of the standardization process.

"Asante has been tracking the work of several groups involved with higher
speed networking," said Brian MacLeod, Asante director of product
marketing. "The Alliance has demonstrated it's ability to deliver the
promise of 100 megabit per second Ethernet. Asante is optimistic about the
market potential for Fast Ethernet and is excited about participating in
the Fast Ethernet Alliance, the company's first approach to higher speed
networking."

Paul Sherer, chairman of the Alliance said, "The Fast Ethernet Alliance is
pleased to welcome Asante as a new member. Asante's strong departmental
support for PCs, and leadership in Macintosh Ethernet networking adds an
important component to the Alliance."

100BASE-T Fast Ethernet Technology

The draft 100BASE-T standard includes specifications to allow 100 Mbps
operation over two pairs of Category 5 unshielded twisted pair wire, or
four pairs of Category 3, 4 or 5 unshielded twisted pair wire, two pairs
of fiber-optic cables, or two pairs of shielded twisted-pair wire.

The benefits of 100BASE-T technology include high speed over existing
installed twisted pair wire, compatibility with the largest installed base
of LAN products, and a trained distribution and installation
infrastructure.

The Fast Ethernet Alliance

The Fast Ethernet Alliance consists of over 60 organizations including
networking companies, system vendors, silicon manufacturers, university
laboratories and consulting companies. The manufacturing members represent
over 80% of the current Ethernet market.
