Asante Introduces NetExtender Hub Plug-And-Play Solution

Portable 10BaseT Hub Ideal for Creating or Extending Personal Networks 

San Jose, Calif. -- As part of its strategy to provide simple,
cost-effective connectivity solutions for Ethernet networks, Asante
Technologies announced the NetExtender Hub -- a plug-and-play device for
extending existing 10BaseT networks or creating small personal networks.

The Asante NetExtender Hub connects up to five Ethernet nodes including
PCs, Macintoshes, workstations or network printers. Priced at $239 and
available for shipment in late January, the NetExtender Hub enables users
to quickly and economically create or extend Ethernet networks. "The
NetExtender Hub is the idea solution for small businesses, home offices,
lab environments, or in any situation where you need to add a few nodes to
an existing network," said Bruce Stancombe, senior product manager for
Asante.

"Because it is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 10BaseT Ethernet standards,
connecting and cascading with other hubs on an existing network is a
simple plug-and-play situation."

The compact Asante NetExtender Hub connects to any PC, Macintosh,
workstation or other device equipped with an AUI or AAUI Ethernet port.
The NetExtender Hub has a total of five Ethernet connections, four RJ-45s
plus one AUI or AAUI Ethernet connection. When creating a standalone
network, the NetExtender can network up to five Ethernet devices. When
extending an existing network, the NetExtender can accommodate up to four
devices.

The Asante NetExtender Hub utilizes the reliable "star" topology of10BaseT
so network nodes can be added or deleted without interrupting traffic. In
addition, each of the nodes can be located up to 100 meters from the
NetExtender Hub using standard 10BaseT cabling. Because it is an industry
standard IEEE 802.3 Ethernet repeater, it is protocol independent and will
work with any IEEE 802.3 Ethernet device. Managers can also monitor the
status of the NetExtender Hub with Power and Link Integrity LEDs.

Portability, Flexibility Key Asante's NetExtender Hub is a completely
portable network solution. The compact unit weighs only 6 ounces and draws
its power from the AUI/AAUI connector on the host device. No external
power adapter is required. This feature, combined with the fact that the
device is as simple to plug in as a telephone, makes the NetExtender Hub a
naturalsolution for home office or laptop computer users who need to
create an ad hoc workgroup to share files and/or network resources. In
fact, users can extend their 10BaseT networks on an as-needed basis,
utilizing existing cabling and network equipment.
