CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROVIDES AUDIO DIRECTIONS TO DRIVER'S SPOKEN
COMMANDS

AudioNav System Draws Information from Etak Digital Map Data on CDs

MENLO PARK, Calif., July 14, 1994 -- You are driving in unfamiliar
territory and you're lost. An electronic voice begins leading you to your
destination: "Proceed north on Main Street 2.4 miles, turn left on Oak
Street. Proceed 1.2 miles to the Springfield Expressway..."

By the end of this year, this futuristic scenario will be a reality when
Amerigon Inc. of Burbank, Calif. releases AudioNav, one of the first
completely voice-operated car navigation systems.

Utilizing digital map data from Etak, Inc. of Menlo Park, Calif., the
AudioNav system connects to a car's compact disc player and provides
recorder voice directions to a driver's spoken commands.

With EtakMap databases converted to audio compact disc format, the system
will be able to identify the origin of the trip, its destination and the
optimal route from beginning to end in seconds.

"We have a license agreement from Etak for coverage of the entire U.S.,"
said Joshua Newman, vice president of Amerigon. "We chose Etak because of
its reputation in the geographical information systems industry for
comprehensive map databases."

Roughly half the size of a videotape, the AudioNav product includes a small
microphone that clips to a car's visor. The recorded voice instructions
from the unit outputs through the car's stereo speakers.

To receive directions, a driver is asked to provide his or her current
location and intended destination by spelling the names of street
addresses, cross streets or landmarks. After identifying the fastest
route, the product describes the total distance to be traveled and
estimated travel time. It then begins voicing instructions in segments,
responding to the driver's spoken prompts.

The system's speech recognition technology responds to most U.S. dialects
and uses proprietary technology to correct for most misspelled street
names, Newman said.

The product will be initially sold through manufacturers of car CD players
and initial sales are expected late in the fourth quarter of 1994, Newmand
said.

"Amerigon's selection of Etak map data shows once again we are the industry
standard for car navigation systems," said John Rehfeld, president and CEO
of Etak.

EtakMap databases provide vendors with positional accuracy, topological
consistency, shape points, road network feature names and classifications,
left and right side of street address ranges, geographic Zip codes, area
fill for parks and water bodies, and one-way information.

EtakMap databases cover the entire U.S. and Japan, as well as metropolitan
areas in Europe. Applications of EtakMap data and MapAccess Development
Tools range from fleet management and AM/FM control systems, to a variety
of consumer products used in vehicles, homes, offices and handheld
products. Etak in-vehicle navigation technology is licensed by
manufacturers such as General Motors, Robert Bosch GmbH and Clarion Co.,
Ltd.

Headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif., Etak, Inc. is a unit of News
Corporation. Under the direction of its chairman, Rupert Murdoch, News
Corporation has become a global media company with more than $7 billion in
revenues. Among its U.S. holdings are 20th Century Fox Studios, Fox
Broadcasting Company and FX (Fox Basic Cable), The New York Post, TV Guide
and Harper-Collins Publishers.
