HEADQUARTERS SOFTWARE INTRODUCES "Fax<HQ"
Australians bring fax server software to U.S.

PLEASANT HILL, CALIF., Sept. 6, 1994 -- Network users may now send, receive
and manage faxes from any desktop computer connected to the network, while
sharing one or more fax/modems built into a central fax server.

FAx<HQ does far more than bring the convenience, speed and power of
stand-alone fax software to networks running NetWare and Windows.

The client/server software:

* Takes network users out of the rat race. No more long treks to a busy
office printer, followed by frustrating, time-wasting waits for a shared
fax machine. And if the fax doesn't make it through, FAX<HQ tries to
resend it, not the user.

* Improves security by fully integrating with NetWare, eliminating the need
to type in another password. Adds 99 security levels, assigned by the
administrator, as well as control over who is able to send a fax where and
the routing of incoming faxes to the proper recipient, keeping out
unwanted eyes.

* Controls phone costs, automatically scheduling non-priority faxes to the
least expensive time of day and carrier.

* Lowers equipment costs, with all users on the network able to share a
single fax/modem and phone line, or pool multiple boards and lines,
instead of equipping each user with his or her own fax and dedicated phone
line.

* Cuts superfluous paper, storing incoming and outgoing faxes to disk.
Users may view, edit and forward documents on screen, without printing or
copying pages of curling thermal fax paper.

The software was developed and is marketed by Headquarters Software Inc.,
an Australian company opening United States offices in Pleasant Hill,
Calif.

Unlike fax software that is ported to networks but made originally for
stand-alone use, FAX<HQ is designed from the start for workgroup,
department and enterprise computing. Among other network-specific
features, it includes:

* Management tools, including dialing prefixes and billing and accounting
codes, to help track faxes for projects, clients and departments, as an
example.

* Administrative tools, including logs that track the status of a fax to
ensure it is sent and received.

* Shared and private phonebooks for contact management, with "one or all"
searching that provides direct "hot links" to popular faxing and contact
management systems. Also allows importing directly from most popular
database formats.

* "Text" faxing -- an electronic notepad on which the user may type in a
few words while still on the telephone, enter a fax number or pop a fax
number in from a phonebook, and push the "send" key -- all without the
bother of exiting one application to load a word processor, choosing a
document style and font, and so on.

* Date and time stamping of all documents.

* For laptop and mobile users in the field, a remote fax system will be
available in the fourth quarter of 1994. The remote edition of FAX<HQ may
be used to send directly from a hotel, for example, or log onto the
network to send faxes. This provides a standard fax system and interface;
users need not learn a second software package to fax when they leave the
office.

World databases

Reflecting its international lineage, FAX<HQ features a unique World
Information database. This tool for the growing ranks of global businesses
features a world clock and map, along with a calendar of holidays, to help
determine when it is best to transmit internationally.

The database also includes more than 21,900 city and 240-plus country
codes, so up-to-date they include the new country codes for Latvia,
Estonia and Bosnia.

When they register FAX<HQ, users receive at no extra cost a database of
thousands of U.S. zip codes. This helps pinpoint a location as new area
codes confusingly proliferate and telephone companies keep up with demand
for new phone numbers and advances in digital communications.

Headquarters Software offers regular updates of the World Information
databases.

To improve corporate documents and make a better impression, FAX<HQ uses
more readable TrueType and PostScript fonts, complete with graphics and
logos, with users able to print to plain paper, if needed.

Flexible faxing

The software also supports delayed sending, embedded faxing, database
faxing, faxing of groups of documents to one or multiple fax numbers, and
broadcast faxing. This flexibility enables easy use of the software in
support of sales and marketing, for example, or to provide better customer
support and automate technical updates.

FAX<HQ also includes user-selectable macros that with a click of the mouse
automatically launch Microsoft Word, Ami Pro and Word Perfect.

Pricing

The software comes in a standard package -- $1,295 suggested retail -that
includes one copy of the FAX<HQ Gateway Fax Server software, which
supports unlimited users, including the supervisor and a default user,
plus 25 copies of the FAX<HQ client module -- for a total of 27 users.

Expansion kits -- $695 SRP -- enable users to add 25 additional users.

Other expansion kits for more than 25 users are also available.

Requirements

The server software requires, at a minimum, a 20MHz 386SX computer and 40MB
hard disk archival storage; a math coprocessor is recommended.

For higher fax volumes, a 25MHz 486DX is recommended, along with 100MB hard
disk archival storage.

Other system requirements are 4MB RAM, a network interface card and a
fax/modem card.

At the server, the software operates under Novell NetWare 2.x, 3.x and 4.x,
Windows 3.1 or higher -- as well as Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on top of
NetWare.

At the client workstation, FAX<HQ operates under MS/PC-DOS and Windows 3.1
or higher.

Fax/Modems

The software supports any Intel Satisfaxion fax/modem, which also gives
users the ability to send, receive and manage file transfers and
electronic mail.

Up to ten fax/modems may be installed in one server, making it capable of
hundreds of faxes each hour.
