New CD-ROM Option For The FW7500

August 30, 1994 -- MINNEAPOLIS, MN-- FieldWorks, Inc. today announced that
their CD-ROM option is now available for the FW7500 Field WorkStation.
Company officials noted that this new high-powered line of portable
computer platforms is the first to combine an integrated Double Speed
CD-ROM drive in a lightweight, true MIL-Spec rugged, six ISA slot portable
machine. The FW7500 CD-ROM platform contains a proprietary card-cage
technology that allows the user to plug in six half-size, three full-size,
or a combination of IBM ISA compatible expansion cards in a package that
is only 3.75 inches (9.5cm) in height and 15.0 pounds (6.3kg) in weight.
Additional technology highlights include a patent pending integral, flat
panel mouse/signature pad; up to 64Mb of RAM on board; a type I-IV PCMCIA
expansion slot; Dual-Scan VGA color Display; sealed keyboard; a HyperSlot
ISA slot that will clock at 2 times the normal bus speed; and an all
Magnesium/Aluminum rubberized case.

A FieldWorks spokesperson indicated that the intended target markets
include professionals in Field Service, Field Sales, Data Acquisition,
Real Estate, Insurance, Manufacturing Process Control, Data/Telecom Test,
Medical Instrumentation, Mobile Office, Engineering, Automotive, Police &
Fire, CAD/CAM, & Government/Military agencies. The target markets include
all applications where a high-performance, lightweight, ruggedized
WorkStation with expansion capability is required. The FW7500 is designed
to MIL Spec 810C for shock and vibration, and utilizes hard drives capable
of withstanding 100 G's of shock while operating. The FW7500 is compatible
with DOS, Windows, Unix, OS2 and other operating systems and applications
software for 486 based machines. Introductory pricing is $7995.00 (USD).
