Ricoh Introduces New Multifunctional Fax/Copier with Optional Printer
Interface

Combines plain paper fax, digital copier and optional 10 ppm laser printer

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. (September 1, 1994) -- Ricoh Corporation has announced
the pricing and immediate availability of the new multifunctional RICOH
MV715. The MV715 incorporates the functions of a high-speed laser fax hub
and fully-featured digital copier, and with the optional PC printer
interface delivers high-speed laser printing from IBM PCs and compatibles.
It has a suggested retail price of $5,995. The optional PC printer
interface lists for $595.

"By combining two, and optionally three, document processing functions into
a single unit, the MV715 offers space, energy and even maintenance
savings," said John Carlomano, product manager, fax systems products.
"What is more, productivity is improved when it is no longer necessary to
walk from device to device to accomplish routine jobs. In addition,
overall equipment costs may be much lower, and consumable inventories can
be reduced," he added.

High Volume Laser Fax Hub

In facsimile mode, the RICOH MV715 is designed as a laser hub for fax
networks and other applications with demanding volume requirements. Its
high-speed modem transmits documents to other 14.4 kilobytes per second
(kbps) machines in six seconds per letter-size page over regular phone
lines. It has a 1.5 second per page scan speed and is capable of sending
and receiving 11 by 17 inch documents.

The MV715 delivers superior quality recording on plain paper at resolutions
up to 400 dots-per-inch (dpi). The appearance of documents is enhanced by
Ricoh's digital imaging technology and 64 levels of halftone for
photographs. For added clarity and transmission reliability, the unit also
features a Group 3 Error Correction Mode (ECM).

Its 500-sheet paper capacity is supplied by two cassettes holding 250
sheets each, accommodating various sizes of paper up to 11 x 17 inches.
Two additional 250-sheet cassettes are available as an option, giving the
MV715 as much as 1,000 sheets of on-line paper.

The MV715 provides true multi-tasking, permitting users to scan documents
into memory for later transmission while the unit is printing, receiving
or sending documents from memory. Either platen scanning or an automatic
document feeder is available.
Memory expansion up to 1,200 pages is achieved with optional 1MB or 2MB
cards or with an optional hard disk.

Optional Group 4 upgrades provide the benefits of all-digital document
communication, including improved reliability and clarity, lower costs for
volume usage and faster transmission speeds. Group 4 fax transmits
documents over both public and private digital data lines in 1.5 seconds
per page. Upgraded units can be connected simultaneously to both phone and
data lines, and automatically receive documents from either source.

Practical Digital Copier

No need to walk back and forth from fax to copier, the MV715 is an advanced
digital copier that produces 15 copies-per-minute at 400 by 400 dpi
resolution on the spot. The MV715 features MSLI image enhancement that
creates 32 different levels of brilliance per pixel to deliver striking
copies. Other standard features include: 13 preset magnification ratios
and zoom reduction and enlargement in one percent increments from 25 to
400 percent (analog copiers typically enlarge only to 200 percent),
directional magnification and series copying.

Productivity enhancing options, including a three-bin sorter and job
separator, memory sort capability and a duplexing unit, are available.

Laser Printer

With an optional PC printer interface, the MV715 provides excellent 300 dpi
resolution laser printing from any IBM or compatible PC. HP LaserJet III
(PCL 5) emulation provides full compatibility with most off-the-shelf
software. RS232C Serial and Centronics parallel ports are included for
connection to standalone PCs or select LANs. A PostScript option is also
available for use in Microsoft Windows environments.

The printer offers 14 bit-mapped and 8 scalable internal fonts, and a font
card may be installed to increase the number of available fonts. Standard
printer RAM is 1 MB, and is upgradable.
