DCA ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY'S FIRST SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT SOLUTION FOR
CORPORATE-WIDE NETWORKS

--Unique combination of peer-to-peer networking and branch distribution
agents delivers new levels of scalability, cost savings and ease of use--

Sept 6, 1994 -- ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Digital Communications Associates Inc.
(DCA) today announced NetWizard, the industry's first distributed software
management solution designed from the ground up to provide network
administrators with an easy and practical way of managing software from a
central location even in large networks.

NetWizard enables network administrators to distribute inventory, install,
configure and monitor software on networked PCs running in Windows and
MS-DOS environments, both locally and over wide-area links, and eliminates
the need to maintain software on a node-by- node basis -- all without
leaving the office. NetWizard directly communicates between networked
nodes to carry out software management functions, independent of file
server domains and network topology.

"Industry analysts estimate that the costs to maintain networked software
can be four times the initial price of the software," said Chris
Buckingham, director cf marketing for DCA's Unisys division. "DCA
understands that much of this expense is in time and travel to physically
maintain each node. With NetWizard, we've eliminated that expense for our
customers."

By offering a unique combination of peer-to-peer networking and Branch
Distribution Agents, NetWizard lets administrators directly communicate
between the server and each workstation without having to log-in to each
file server on the network, significantly reducing the time needed to
perform simultaneous software management tasks and cutting network
traffic.

Peer-to-peer networking moves files from node to node, including those over
wide-area connections and distributes information updates and changes to
and from remote file servers without being directly attached to the
network. NetWizard's interactive node browsing and remote file editing
capabilities enable administrators to edit any text file located anywhere
on the network. Branch Distribution Agents, a subset of the manager
component, function as distribution repositories and information
collection points for workstations distributed throughout the network
domains.

Another unique feature of NetWizard includes Distribution UNDO and
Transaction Processing, which allows network administrators to uninstall
an update or change globally across the network by a simple drag and drop
operation. NetWizard groups multiple operations into logical transactions,
automatically recovers failed transactions, selectively rolls back
successful distributions and restores updated and/or deleted files. This
capability assures recovery from mistakes and provides for workstation
integrity.

ODBC (open database connectivity) integration, another powerful feature of
NetWizard, allows network managers to store distribution status, metering
and hardware/software inventory information from the network in any ODBC
capable database, including dBase, Excel, Access, FoxPro, Paradox,
INFORMIX, Btrieve and SQL Server. Familiar desktop tools can be used for
query and reporting and specific distributions can be made based on
database query results.

Paul Jones, director of networking and microcomputer services at Pensacole
Junior College, recently installed NetWizard there. "As a network
administrator, one of the biggest problems I face is being able to
distribute software efficiently and reliably. It's hard to access local
drives on scattered PCs. Not only do I have to worry about our main campus
here at Pensacola, but I also have to serve our other two branch campuses
via our Novell WAN in Warrington and Milton, Florida," Jones said.

Jones added he evaluated about six other products before selecting DCA's
NetWizard. "NetWizard was perfect for our use. It was easy to install and
took less than one hour. The more you can do from your desk, the more
efficient you are. NetWizard allows me to do that."

Michael Howard, industry analyst, Infonetics Research, said: "NetWizard is
very well thought out. I asked a lot of questions and DCA had good answers
for all of them. It appears to be a very mature product."

With NetWizard's intuitive user interface, administrators have the power to
modify system file settings for workstations on an individual or group
basis, enabling global modifications to be easily made. The NetWizard
interface presents a logical view of the network which can be used to
group nodes. Distributions are performed by dragging and dropping on node
or group icons.

With its product specific extensions, NetWizard can effectively manage
application specific criteria. DCA's IRMA and INFOConnect product lines
include editors that use NetWizard, and client/server architecture and OLE
2.0 editors provide for unlimited expansion potential. Even application
specific criteria such as mainframe access codes can be centrally
managed.

NetWizard will be available in September directly from DCA for a price of
$595 for a 10-node license.
