PERCON INTRODUCES NEXT GENERATION DECODERS -- SERIES 10 PLUS AND SERIES 20
PLUS; PRICE ON SERIES 10 PLUS LOWERED TO $225 LIST

EUGENE, OR--Based on recent industry studies, the fixed-station decoder
market is expected to continue to grow an average of 17% a year for the
next three years. With that in mind, Percon, Inc., a leading manufacturer
of bar code reading hardware, today announced the introduction of two
fixed-station decoder products -- the Series 10 Plus and Series 20 Plus.
Both of these new decoders provide significant enhancements to the
Company's existing decoder line, replacing the Series 10 and the Series 20
models. In addition, the price of the Series 10 decoder has been reduced
to a list price of $225 with the introduction of the Series 10 Plus.

Both the Series 10 Plus and Series 20 Plus decoders offer keyboard wedge
and serial models, one bar code input device port, an external magnetic
stripe connector, and five year warranties; the Series 20 Plus offers a
dual bar code input model. In addition, a wide variety of input devices
including wands, CCDs, 5V lasers, and ID Badge scanners may be used.

"The Series 10 Plus and Series 20 Plus represent the next generation in
decoder technology," says Doug Wilson, Director of Sales and Marketing.
"Each offers added features and greater flexibility, while at the same
time affording price-conscious customers a quality solution with the
Series 10 Plus."

Designed to meet basic decoding needs, the Series 10 Plus is programmed
using either a bar code menu or a bar code batch label. It
auto-discriminates among 14 different symbologies, and provides two track
magnetic stripe support. Keyboard interfaces include IBM PC/AT/XT, PS/2,
and Macintosh.

The Series 20 Plus is a Universal decoder, which may be used as either a
keyboard wedge or serial decoder. Over 300 computers and terminals
interface with the Series 20 Plus; in addition, an external serial device
such as a scale may be connected using a separate external auxiliary
serial connector located on the back of the unit. The Series 20 Plus is
operational without the keyboard, 5V or 12V lasers compatibility, up to
three magnetic stripe channel support, programmable scale support, host
controlled indicators, laser and CCD trigger modes, and serial baud rates
up to 57.6K are just a few of the added features to the Series 20 Plus
decoder.

The Series 20 Plus decoder electronically decodes customer credit card
information, driver license numbers and demographic information stored on
magnetic stripe driver licenses now in use in California. Non-standard
information including specific information about the driver such as name,
address, sex, age, height and weight are also encoded. Bi-directional
scanning allows the users to run a card through a magnetic stripe scanner
in either direction, while maintaining accuracy of the information
scanned.

Trigger modes enable a laser or CCD in the default mode to automatically
turn on and read any enabled code. Auto scan is supported for hands-off
scanning and a multi-scan mode allows the laser to automatically turn on
after current data has been output. An input device using this mode cannot
read the same bar code twice in a row.

The Series 20 Plus is fully programmable; options include on-screen, bar
code menu, bar code batch and serial batch programming. Over fifteen
symbologies can be read including Code 16K.

A Series 20 Plus Dual model is also available, allowing users to connect
their choice of up to two input devices and one magnetic stripe reader at
one time. In addition, an audio jack is available on either Series 20 Plus
model, allowing the user to wear headphones to hear the good read beep in
a noisy environment.

"The Series 10 and Series 20 decoders have set standards in the automatic
identification industry. Product enhancements for the new Series 10 Plus
and Series 20 Plus models have been based on Percon's market research,
customer feedback, and anticipated trends in the industry," says Doug
Wilson, Director of Sales and Marketing. "Percon has demonstrated its
commitment to providing its customers with leading edge decoding
technology with the introduction of the Series 10 Plus and Series 20 Plus
decoders."

The suggested list price for the Series 10 Plus is $225; the Series 20 Plus
begins at $415 (US, quantity one). Interface cables for either model are
purchased separately. Both the Series 10 Plus and the Series 20 Plus offer
an optional on-site replacement warranty.
