TANGENT BEGINS SHIPMENT OF NEXGEN Nx586 BASED SYSTEMS

Burlingame, California, September 19, 1994 Tangent Computer today started
shipments of a high performance PC line built around NexGen's Nx586
processor family. The product is a result of a strategic relationship
announced earlier with NexGen, Inc., of Milpitas, California. Tangent is
now shipping a new model line featuring NexGen CPUs with four levels of
performance ranging from the Nx586-P75 to the Nx586-P100.

The Nx586-P75 and Nx586-P80 provide the value-oriented customer with a full
64 bit fifth generation x86 compatible platform at sub $2,000 prices. The
Nx586-P90 and Nx586-P100 based models are powerful, affordable systems
built to provide maximum performance with prices in the mid to upper
$2,000 range.

Citing a customer focus on performance and value Tangent VP of Engineering,
Ron Perkes, claims the new NexGen-based Tangent models provide a superior
price performance ratio than previous Tangent models.

Tangent has been working with NexGen for 2 years. "It has been a very
positive experience to work with NexGen," according to Perkes. "They
offered us a tremendous amount of engineering assistance. They helped us
to secure compatibility certifications such as Novell and Windows NT. They
offered marketing assistance. We are extraordinarily impressed with
NexGen's helpfulness and equally impressed with the NexGen CPU. In certain
industry standard benchmarks we ran, NexGen's CPU outperformed any product
previously tested."

The Nx-586 is a superscalar fifth generation x86 compatible processor
developed independently by NexGen. It is the first x86 microprocessor to
fully incorporate RISC technologies into a x86 architecture, what NexGen
refers to as "RISC86 Microarchitecture. The silicon itself features 0.50
micron CMOS technology made possible by the strategic relationship between
IBM Microelectronics Division and NexGen, announced last June. "Our
testing has shown that the NexGen Nx586-P90 runs cooler than any of the
Intel Pentiums we have tested which we believe will contribute to overall
system reliability. In many ways this is the most advanced processor
technology in the industry," states Perkes.

Unlike the Intel Pentium the NexGen CPU integrates the L2 cache controller
onto the CPU. The resulting L2 cache performance is significantly
enhanced. A full 1024K of L2 cache is supported in addition to a 32K L1
cache.

Tangent offers four complete system offerings priced from $1,799 to $2,999.
The TC Nx-75 model features the Nx586-P75, a local bus Graphics
Accelerator with 1MB, 340MB drive, 8MB DRAM, 256K Cache, 14" monitor, DOS
and Windows. The TC Nx-80 adds a dual speed CD-ROM, the Nx586-P80
processor and sells for $1,999, The TC Nx-90 includes a Stealth 64 DRAM
graphics accelerator, Nx586P90 CPU, 16MB DRAM, CD-ROM, and a 540MB hard
drive for $2,699. The TC Nx-100 utilizes an Nx586-P100 CPU, Stealth 64
VRAM accelerator, 15" MPRII monitor, 16MB RAM, 540MB drive, and CDROM for
$2,999.

"Our objective in offering a NexGen-based product is to give customers a
choice", states Tangent VP Marketing Mike Zabaneh. "When people evaluate
the price, the speed, and the compatibility of the NexGen CPU they are
going to like what they see."

Standard warranty terms include 2 year limited parts and labor with
optional on-site service through IAI. Extended terms and GSA discounts are
available.
