Zenith Data Systems' award-winning Z-LITE shines even brighter with vivid
color, faster clock speed

Local bus video adds performance boost to light-weight notebook

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. -- September 6, 1994 -- Zenith Data Systems today
launched the color generation of the popular Z-LITE lightweight notebook
computer. The new color Z-LITE features faster 33Mhz clock speed and local
bus architecture for quicker functioning. Even the five-time award-winning
design of the lightweight has been improved.

"Zenith Data Systems has done an extremely good job of making our notebook,
labeled 'the best' in 1993 by the media and our customers, even better in
1994," commented Cliff Jenks, ZDS executive vice president of sales and
marketing. "We are confident the new color Z-LITE is going to be an even
bigger winner in the ultra-light category than its predecessor -- and
that's a tall order!"

Cost-Effective, Uncompromised Color

The new Z-LITE third-generation smaller notebook from ZDS features a
7.8-inch VGA STN LCD that keeps high-quality color affordable. The vivid
color display is backlit for superior clarity, and offers a contrast ratio
of 12 to one for exceptionally crisp images. The angle of the screen can
be tilted and the brightness of the backlight adjusted for enhanced
readability. The simultaneous video capabilities of the color Z-LITE
enable users to run an external SVGA or VGA monitor for training sessions
and presentations.

Maximized, Efficient Performance

The color Z-LITE's VL-local bus interface provides dynamically improved
video performance over the previous monochrome ISA architectures. Powered
by the Cx486DLC processor, the new Z-LITE operates at a continuous
clock-speed of 33MHz, with a full 32-bit data path and 1K internal cache
for optimized performance. Its sophisticated power management system is
transparent to operating systems and applications software. The refined
CPU of the ZLITE utilizes 3.3-volt technology, drawing up to 50 percent
less power than the average five-volt microprocessor.

"We've made certain that the Z-LITE continues to pack the power, storage
and color punch to compete in the full-size notebook market," said David
O'Connor, executive vice president of ZDS' worldwide product group. "And
like all ZDS computers, the color Z-LITE is tops in the connectivity
features, too."

Exclusively Connectable

The color version of the Z-LITE is still one of the few notebooks in this
category on the market to include two PCMCIA Type II slots for double the
flexibility and expansion convenience. Most often used for data/fax modems
and network adapter cards, this feature was noted as key to the success of
the monochrome Z-LITE, and is expected to maintain popularity in the color
generation.

"Communications and the ability to share data online are important parts of
computing productivity," commented Jenks. "Z-LITE users don't have to
forfeit that capability for the convenience of a small, lightweight PC. In
fact, ZDS understands Z-LITE users need connectivity even more on the
road."

For easy connections to the network, ZDS offers optional 10BaseT, 10Base2
and Token Ring PCMCIA network cards. Preinstalled software includes
Windows for Workgroups, On-line documentation, CoSession remote
communications software, and SideKick for Windows. Additional Z-LITE ports
include one serial, one parallel, and one video-out port that supports
1024 x 768 at 256 colors, and a PS/2-compatible mouse/keyboard port.

Comfortable by Design

The color Z-LITE features the enhanced J-Mouse integrated pointing device
which enables users to point and click using an isometric joystick
embedded in the J-Key and F-Key/space bar. To complement the J-Mouse,
users have the option of the Z-LITE LITEPOINT removable pointing device
which attaches below the keyboard and likewise eliminates the need to
remove fingers from the keys to move a mouse. Both devices may be used
simultaneously for maximum flexibility.

"Z-LITE pointing devices feel natural, are easy and efficient to use," said
O'Connor. "From the comfortable slope of the keyboard to the textured
anthracite case, the design and ergonomics of this less than
four-and-one-half pound PC are as practical as they are beautiful!"

Weighing in at 4.3 pounds with its NiMH battery, the color Z-LITE averages
a battery life of approximately 2.5 to four hours. (Actual battery life
depends on the applications used, the peripherals connected to the system
and the power management features selected.) Its keyboard slopes from 1.7
to 1.3 inches high, with overall dimensions of 9.9 inches wide and 7.6
inches deep. The color Z-LITE's external floppy drive is optional and
connects to the parallel port. The new Z-LITE also maintains the original
popular power management features, including standby mode, lid
rest/resume, and the at-a-glance battery fuel gage.

Pricing and Availability

Priced at $1,799, the color Z-LITE is available now, September 1994,
through authorized resellers. The optional floppy disk drive is $99, and
the optional LITEPOINT is priced at $89. Users may purchase the base unit,
floppy disk drive and LITEPOINT for only $1,899 -- a savings of $88 off
the individual prices. (Prices quoted are ZDS prices. Reseller prices may
vary.)
