Unique New Software Protection System For The Amiga PC Unveiled By Aladdin

March 1994 -- Tel-Aviv, IL - Aladdin Knowledge Systems has recently
announced a unique hardware-based software protection solution for the
Amiga PC hardware platform. Based on its successful line of hardware-based
software protection keys, Aladdin's AmigaHASP offers Amiga software
developers an innovative solution to the growing problem of software
piracy, and the ensuing loss of revenues to both software developers and
to the software industry as a whole.

The problem of software piracy

The latest figures published by the Software Publisher's Association (SPA)
prove that the problem of software piracy is a rampant as ever, with
annual losses to the industry estimated at well over $12 billion. And the
illegal use of software is as much of a problem for Amiga software
developers, as it is to developers in the PC world.

A Solution is now available

Until now, Amiga software developers had no choice but to depend on
out-dated software-based protection solutions has finally been corrected:
the first hardware-based protection device developed specifically to meet
the requirements and standards of the Amiga PC platform, the AmigaHASP
offers a high quality software protection solution for the Amiga market.

How does it work?

The AmigaHASP key connects to the RS232 serial port of Amigas PCs (and
virtually any other computer with an RS232 port). Each AmigaHASP contains
a unique electronic code, recognized by the protected software. During
runtime, the protected program checks whether an AmigaHASP key with the
appropriate code is connected to the Amiga computer's serial port. If the
key's code is confirmed, the software can be executed. If not, the
software will not run. The AmigaHASP software routines supplied with the
AmigaHASP enable the developer to enhance security, by checking for the
presence of the keys as many times as is required, from within the
protected software.

No hassle for the end-user

The end-user will not be inconvenienced by the AmigaHASP key, as the system
is transparent to the computer's operation. This means that almost any
type of serial port peripheral equipment can be connected behind the
AmigaHASP. In addition, AmigaHASP keys contain a small toggle switch,
which allows the user to adapt the key to different serial port
configurations. This further enhances the AmigaHASP's high level of
platform compatibility.

AmigaHASP keys contain 128 bytes of internal read/write memory. This
internal memory enables customized key programming, for purposes such as
user identification, multiple program authorization, software demoing,
version upgrading, and storing sensitive data.

Prices

Prices for the various AmigaHASP models start at $US 25.00 per unit,
including all necessary software and documentation.
