RAINBOW INTRODUCES NEW JAPANESE SOFTWARE PROTECTION

The SentinelSuperPro Offers Developers Industry's First Software Protection
Support for Win32S-J for NEC Platform

San Jose, Calif., March 15, 1994 (Software Development Conference, Booth
#1216) --Rainbow Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: RNBO), today announced the
first software protection support for Win32S-J on the NEC platform with
its SentinelSuperPro hardware key which utilizes Rainbow's next generation
proprietary ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) technology. The
SentinelSuperPro is the industry's first software protection device that
combines the benefits of multiple algorithms and read/write memory in one
key. Together these features provide software developers the ability to
implement the widest variety of protection options available today for
DOS, Windows and Windows NT applications running on IBM PCs, NECs and
compatibles.

"The SentinelSuperPro combines the best features of our algorithmic and
memory-based products. By combining the security of multiple algorithms
and the flexibility of programmable memory in a single key, Rainbow offers
developers leading edge technology in the software protection industry,"
said Norman Denton, Rainbow's Vice President Worldwide Sales and
Marketing.

How It Works

The SentinelSuperPro contains 128 bytes of read/write memory organized as
16 64 bit words. The words can be configured in many ways. For example,
they can be used as time counters for leased software. Or they can count
executions for limiting the operation of demonstration products.
Additionally, memory cells can be programmed with customer information,
serial numbers, passwords and more.

For maximum security, proprietary algorithm descriptors can be stored in
the key. The application sends a data stream to the key which returns a
scrambled string back to the application. The application then acts on the
returned values as programmed by the developer. These algorithm
descriptors may be associated with passwords and counters too. Developers
can protect multiple/modular applications by assigning each package its
own unique algorithm.

Availability

The SentinelSuperPro is available for DOS, Windows, Win32S software
developers. SentinelSuperPro Evaluation Kits, which feature a customer
unique hardware key, software and a manual, are available for $30.
