Time Arts broadens platform support with Signature 1.1 release

Graphics Class Library now available for Silicon Graphics Workstations and
Visual C++

February 14, 1993 -- Santa Rosa, CA - Sophisticated graphics capabilities
and cross-platform portability have become essential for the success of
new software products. Time Arts Signature, a fully object oriented
graphics class library of exceptional scope, elegance and range of
expression, now offers both.

Signature 1.1 gives Windows and Windows NT developers a choice of two
compilers for their 32-bit applications: Borland 4.0 with Win32s
extensions and Microsoft Visual C++. For UNIX developers, Signature 1.1
has been ported to work with Silicon Graphics C++ Translator 3.2 for
32-bit Motif applications. Support for the Sun SPARCompiler 3.0.1 is in
development, and versions for OS/2 and the Macintosh are planned.

"When we first set down our objectives for Signature," says Scott Gross,
Time Arts Vice President of Engineering, "inherent cross platform
portability was near the top of the list. After eleven years experience in
graphics software development, we have learned that lesson well. In
building Signature, we handled every possible task in a
platform-independent manner; keeping our platform-dependent classes to the
barest minimum. As a result, once you have a Signature-based application
running on your development platform, the amount of work required to port
it to other systems is minimal."

"Signature 1.0 was launched for Windows last August," explains Neil
Blumenfield, President of Time Arts, "but many of our initial customers
have requested other platforms as well. The introduction of the SGI and
Visual C++ versions demonstrates our steadfast commitment to cross
platform portability.

The new versions compiled smoothly, which certainly confirmed for us the
value of Signature's inherently cross platform design."

Signature is totally object oriented (written in C++) and of interest to
any developer who is grappling with the necessity of incorporating
sophisticated 2D graphics functionality into an application. Based on a
comprehensive graphics model, it integrates vector and raster descriptions
of objects. Raster features like point and area processing, opacity
patterns, textures and anti-aliased edges can be used in combination with
vector features like resolution independence, compact file size and
ever-editable image layers. In addition, Signature supports multiple color
space models and multiple pixel color depths, and it implements this
impressive array of classes in an elegant hierarchical organization,
creating a coherent foundation for future development requirements while
solving graphics problems of today.

Signature is an invaluable development aid for any application that reads,
analyzes, processes or outputs data in graphic form. Potential customers
include software developers in medical imaging, process control, graphic
design and pre-press, textile and fashion design, video, motion picture
effects, computer games, multimedia, education, information management and
graphics hardware. Current customer applications include pre-publishing
paint systems, textile design software, data visualization tools,
industrial visualization systems and retail graphics kiosks, which
confirms the broad market requirement for graphics functionality.
