SOFTWARE SECURITY'S NEW UNIKEY IS BREAKTHROUGH IN PRICE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR
SOFTWARE PROTECTION

SAN JOSE, CA, March 15, 1994 -- UniKey, a totally new concept in so tware
protection and licensing, dramatically lowers the cost, simplifies the
implementation, and increases the security of upgrades for developers and
publishers who use hardware security keys. Utilizing a single hardware key
and Software Security's patented technology, this newsystem is being
exhibited in Booth 1245 at Software Development '94.

Only one UniKey is required per customer to protect a developer's entire
product line. A developer or publisher supplies only one hardware device
and then uses Software Security's transaction remotely upgrade or add new
applications. It is not necessary to swap out or replace keys.

The cost of a single hardware key which enables one application, in
quantities of 1,000, is only $15. Future upgrades and electronically can
be added for $5 each, either preloaded or by transactions are performed
and appropriate charges are debited via a metering key.

"With this low price for hardware keys and even lower price for subsequent
releases, volume users of hardware keys will find that UniKey will result
in significant savings," says Neil Holzman, vice President, sales and
marketing.

UniKey includes software tools to provide implementation functions. In
addition, for developers who wish to utilize UniKey without changing their
code, Software Security, Inc. offers its AEGIS System as an option. AEGIS
protects an application in under ten minutes by putting a shell around the
executable file.

In the case of upgrades, developers and publishers currently using other
products must send out new keys or activate a code held in the key's
memory. Unless the memory is unique to each end user, there is a
possibility that copies of the memory contents can be shared. With UniKey,
developers can add an application or a new release remotely, preventing
any duplication of the key's contents.

"In addition to the advantages of price and convenience, the UniKey system
technology provides upgrades without compromising security, " says
Holzman. "The upgrade is as secure as the original release."

He points to another benefit of UniKey, which is the capability of
providing information about customers. "Because each UniKey is assigned a
unique ID, publishers can maintain 100% user registration," he says.

An optional version, UniKey/M, provides a 256 byte non-volatile memory
available for use by the developer.

In addition to the price of $15 each in quantities of 1,000, Software
Security, Inc. also offers UniKey at $20 in quantities of 500 - 999. In
both cases, additional transactions are $5 each.
