CONNER SOFTWARE SHOWS SUPPORT FOR NETWARE 4.0 WITH BACKUP EXEC SOFTWARE

NEW YORK, NY, June 29, 1993.... Conner Software Products Group, the leading
supplier of storage management software and a division of Conner
Peripherals Inc. (NYSE:CNR), today announced the addition of support for
Novell's NetWare 4.0 with the company's latest version of Backup Exec for
NetWare, which will be unveiled at PC Expo in New York on June 29 July 1,
Booth No. 3352.

Backup Exec for NetWare is a suite of NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs) that
extends the capabilities of NetWare 4.0 with a comprehensive range of disk
backup and data management features. It is compatible with Novell's
Storage Management Services features, including data migration and data
compression, while adding its own set of data management functions, such
as file grooming, tape rotation, job scheduling and reporting.

Conner Software's latest version of Backup Exec for NetWare is capable of
automating backup and restore operations for all NetWare servers connected
in a local area network or a wide area internet, as defined by the network
administrator from either the file server or a DOS or Windows workstation.
Additionally, Backup Exec supports full backup and restore operations of
DOS, Windows, and OS/2 workstations, including Lotus Notes and LAN Manager
servers; UNIX workstations using TCP/IP and System 7-based Macintosh
workstations running under AppleTalk.

"The combination of Backup Exec and NetWare 4.0 provides LAN administrators
with the most powerful LAN management tool set ever," said Robert Wight,
vice president of the Conner Software Products Group. "For the first time,
LAN managers now have the information they need and the control features
to optimize the movement, storage and retrieval of information across
global enterprise networks."

With the introduction of Backup Exec for NetWare 4.0, Conner Software has
produced a client-server backup solution that addresses a LAN
administrator's requirement for timely, pertinent storage management
information. Backup Exec for NetWare provides LAN administrators with
complete job reporting features, including comprehensive statistical
operation summary information, providing a data management complement to
the new administrative features of NetWare 4.0, including NetWare
Directory Services.

The network can be administered through powerful client applications that
supply administrators with control over queued jobs and catalogued
information, as well as management functions for tape rotation. The client
applications which run on DOS, Windows and NetWare are capable of
submitting backup, restore and file grooming jobs, determining job status
and results information. Using any of the client applications, LAN
managers can administer multiple backup of servers without having to exit
the client software.

Along with its powerful data management functions, Backup Exec for NetWare
4.0 includes some of the most advanced tape operations capabilities
available, including automated backup and restore scheduling, tape
rotation and file grooming. Installable grandfather-father-son tape
rotation is supported with the ability to display backup information down
to the set level and to display and select which tapes are necessary to
perform a full restore of a server. Tape rotation can be performed even by
novice users as they can be prompted as to which tape is needed next,
which tapes are needed during coming days and which tapes should be
relocated off-site. Backup Exec also integrates fail-safes into the
rotation capability to prevent accidental overwriting of tapes.

Backup Exec for NetWare is one of the fastest client-server packages ever
available, capable of supporting backup and restore rates of more than 48
megabytes per minute, depending on the tape drive used. Backup Exec for
NetWare is capable of supporting automated tape loaders and libraries.

Backup Exec for NetWare 4.0 continues Conner Software's break-through "No
More Tiers" pricing policy for client-server applications. Abolishing the
traditional stratified pricing model and adopting a "No More Tiers"
pricing policy, Backup Exec for NetWare carries a single, fixed price of
$599, regardless of the number of users, number of file servers or amount
of disk storage to be protected on the network. The package includes NLM
applications software for the host server, client software for Windows,
DOS, and NetWare, as well as software agents allowing backup of Windows,
DOS, UNIX, OS/2 and Macintosh workstations.

Backup Exec for NetWare is based on the core technology that is in use by
more than two million customers worldwide under the MaynStream, EZTape,
QICStream, and Archive Information Manager brand names. Additionally,
Conner Software's backup technology is sold on an OEM basis to many of the
world's largest computer companies.

The Conner Software Products Group is dedicated to the development of
advanced software technologies for the data storage market. Two of the
computer industry's most important software companies, Microsoft and
Novell, have turned to Conner for their software development needs.

Founded in 1986, Conner sells, designs and builds a comprehensive line of
information storage solutions, including disk drives, tape drives, storage
management software and storage systems, for a wide range of computer
applications. Conner had 1992 sales of $2.2 billion.
