dBASE RECEIVES NOVELL LABS CERTIFICATION

Industry Standard Database Meets NetWare Compatibility Requirements

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. -- June 29, 1993 -- Borland International Inc.
(NASDAQ:BORL) today announced that dBASE IV 2.0 has received Novell
certification after meeting stringent compatibility requirements with the
NetWare operating system and other NetWare products. Testing and
certification were completed by Novell Labs, a separate testing division
of Novell, Inc.

Novell Labs is devoted to testing and certifying third-party hardware and
software for compatibility with NetWare products. Once compatibility
requirements are met, products are awarded the Novell "Tested and
Approved" seal.

"Developers are finding more effective ways to integrate database
technology into client/server environments," said David Owen, vice
president of Novell Labs. "As these developments become more critical to
our customers' computer networks, we believe our customers will be looking
for information on how well various database platforms perform within a
given environment. Novell's Tested and Approved certification meets this
need: it assures customers that these [certified] products work seamlessly
with NetWare."

dBASE IV 2.0 offers a variety of new features including new memory
management, high performance filters for lightening fast queries and over
30 new language enhancements. The overall speed of the product is up to 10
times faster than previous versions, and up to hundreds o times faster in
areas like data filtering. The dBASE Compiler for DOS is the only 100
percent dBASE III language-compatible compiler providing a simple and
cost-effective means to distribute royalty-free applications.

Other Borland products that have received Novell Labs' NetWare
certification include Quattro Pro for Windows, Paradox for Windows,
Quattro Pro DOS 3.0 and 4.0 and Paradox DOS 4.0.
