FIFTH GENERATION ANNOUNCES FASTBACK PLUS FOR OS/2

First, fully compliant OS/2 backup utility offers functionality, speed, and
reliability of Fastback Plus

Baton Rouge, La., May 18, 1993 -- Fifth Generation Systems today announced
Fastback Plus for OS/2, a backup and restore utility for the OS/2
operating system.

"Our corporate customers have a variety of operating environments from
which to choose, and the increasing importance of networks has made a
standard backup utility a necessity. With our addition of a true OS/2
backup utility, users with UNIX, DOS, Windows, Macintosh, or OS/2 in their
offices have access to the renowned reliability of Fastback," said Barry
L. Bellue, president and CEO. "We also plan to continue multiplatform
development throughout our other product lines so as to provide the most
reliable utilities for all computing environments," added Bellue.

"Each time we enter a new market with Fastback, we want to ensure we
develop a product tailored to the precise needs of users of that operating
environment. For our new OS/2 utility, we followed the same strategy we
initiated with Fastback Plus for UNIX Systems," said Sandra Lyle, Fastback
product line manager. "First we researched the needs of the market, then
we searched for a top-notch OS/2 development shop. The result is a backup
utility that takes advantage of the multi-tasking and scripting abilities
of OS/2, is as compatible with our DOS and Windows backups as possible,
and provides the versatility and reliability so needed in the OS/2
market."

Key features of the new product include:

* COMPLETE CUSTOMIZABILITY -- Fastback Plus offers users the option of
choosing between the traditional Fastback Plus interface, using
Presentation Manager, or customizing their own interface to precisely meet
their needs. Fastback also uses REX scripts to enable users to automate
backup of other applications. Fastback seamlessly backs up the data by
creating a link between the application and Fastback, enabling background
backup while users continue to work on their applications.

* COMPLETE OS/2 COMPATIBILITY -- Fastback Plus for OS/2 is fully OS/2
compliant, allowing background backup, true multi-tasking, and usage of
long file names. It also has the ability to backup HPFS (High Performance
File System).

* MULTI-TASKING OPTIONS -- Fastback Plus for OS/2 offers users the ability
to perform operations using three configurable categories of icons. Device
allows the user to drag a file onto the device on which he wants to backup
or restore a file or directory. Procedure allows users to select a
procedure such as a configured backup operation he wants to perform by
clicking on the icon. Selective Restore allows users to choose files they
want to restore from previous backups by clicking on the icon to build a
directory tree.

* DISASTER RECOVERY -- Fastback Plus for OS/2 allows users to restore their
system quickly and easily in case of a crash by simply typing in a command
at the command line.

The new product also offers features similar to the DOS version including
scheduling capabilities, QIC tape support, and advanced error correction.
In addition, Fastback for OS/2 is cross-compatible with Fastback Plus for
DOS and Fastback Plus for Windows. Fastback Plus for OS/2 is available at
a suggested retail price of $199. Site licenses are also available. The
product will be available in July.
