DeLorme's MapExpert Unleashes the Power of Desktop Mapping

FREEPORT, Maine; May 15, 1993--DeLorme Mapping has brought unparalleled
mapping capabilities to the computer desktop with the MapExpert, a single
CD-ROM that provides a comprehensive, detailed map database of the entire
United States, together with software for locating, viewing, customizing,
and printing an unlimited variety of maps.

Running on Windows-based PCs, MapExpert takes desktop mapping to an
entirely new scale with its full complement of professional-level
features. Many of these advanced capabilities have been developed in
response to requests from business users of DeLorme's best-selling CD-ROM,
Street Atlas USA, a $169 product that the company will continue to offer
and support.

Building on the Street Atlas USA database, MapExpert adds powerful features
for professional applications, including high-quality black-and-white or
color printing, the ability to annotate, highlight, update, and
personalize maps, and a tool that allows users to place and print notes on
any map. A special printing function tiles the printout of large maps so
that an ordinary printer can output a mural map.

MapExpert users can quickly find a map of any spot in the US by searching
for a specific place name, a zip code, or a telephone area code and
exchange. Maps can be viewed and printed at any of dozens of different
scales, ranging from a coast-to-coast panorama down to a level that
clearly shows individual city blocks. As the user zooms in, increasing
levels of detail are displayed. Street address ranges are even available
in more than 300 metropolitan areas.

Working with a map at any scale, users can add text, property lines, new
roads, proposed developments, notes, shaded areas, new geographical
features, common mapping symbols, and other details. When they customize
maps, MapExpert users are not altering the underlying database--instead,
they are creating "overlays" that can be printed, saved to disk, and
reused or edited at a later date.

Users may freely reproduce MapExpert maps for personal and in-house
business use. Users can also copy a map to the Windows clipboard or save
it as a metafile or bitmap that can be imported into any application
supporting these common formats.

MapExpert comes on a single CD-ROM. The retail price is $495. The product
requires an IBM or compatible PC ('386 or '486 recommended), CD-ROM drive,
VGA graphics display, mouse, 2 MB of RAM, 3 MB of free hard-disk space,
Windows 3.0 or 3.1, and MS-DOS 4.01 or higher. A Windows-compatible
printer is recommended.
