STB INTRODUCES POWER MANAGEMENT UTILITY

PowerStar power management utility reduces monitor power consumption by
75%

June 21, 1993 -- Richardson, Texas -- STB Systems, Inc. will begin shipping
a new power management utility that will automatically shut down a monitor
during periods of inactivity. Using this utility, users specify how much
time of inactivity occurs before the utility is activated.

PowerStar, the power management utility, is the first software that offers
users a way to automatically reduce the amount of energy their monitor
consumes during times of inactivity. The software was designed to meet
requirements set by the EPA's Energy Star program and will conform to
standards defined by VESA for power down mode monitors.

According to Jeff Bobzin, SystemSoft Corporation, computer systems account
for 5% of the commercial sector's electricity consumption and may grow to
10% by the year 2000. Using the PowerStar utility with a VESA compatible
monitor (that supports a shut down mode) will reduce a monitor's power
consumption by approximately 75%.

PowerStar comes with two modes of power reduction. The first mode will put
the monitor in an inactive mode, blanking the monitor screen but still
keeping the red/green/blue electron guns active and ready to fire. The
second mode is a shut down mode and is comparable to turning the monitor
completely off. Both modes are controlled through a user interface that
operates similar to a screen saver. The user defines the amount of time
before each mode is activated.

The PowerStar will begin shipping as an added-value utility with all STB
products at the end of July. The suggested retail price of the PowerStar
if purchased separately is $99.
