Microtek Announces The ScanMaker Scooter

A self-moving color hand scanner that delivers fast, accurate and even
scans

June 25, 1993, Torrance, CA--Microtek will announce at PC EXPO in New York,
June 29, 1993, the Microtek ScanMaker Scooter. A self-moving hand scanner
that scans graphics and text. The ScanMaker Scooter eliminates one of the
most common drawbacks of using hand scanners - reduced image quality due
to uneven movement by the user.

Special Features

The ScanMaker Scooter is driven across an image at a steady controlled
speed by a built-in motor that produces even, professional images with
every scan. The Microtek Scooter scans images up to 8" x 11" and produces
high quality results from a single scanning pass. This 24-bit motorized
color scanner offers resolutions up to 400 dpi and reproduces images in
black and white, 256 shades of gray, 16.7 million colors.

"ScanMaker Scooter is the first hand-held or personal scanner Microtek has
introduced," said Woody Hale, Microtek's vice President of marketing and
sales. "With its unique self-propelled and enhanced stitching features, we
believe it is the right product for Microtek to bring to this segment of
the scanner market."

The Microtek Scooter includes a special Auto-Merge function and TrackPad
scanner tracking pad. This straight tracking guide has right and left
guide rails that allow accurate scanning of any image size. Once the image
has been scanned, the Auto-Merge function creates a seamless finished scan
that ensures two halves of a large image will fit together precisely.
Microtek has paid special attention to the stitching function, since it is
critical to the delivery of scans wider than four inches. Unlike
competitive products without the self-propelled features, ScanMaker
Scooter can stitch images above ''00 dpi and even at the maximum 400 dpi
level. And, while no stitching function is able to address every image
type, Scooter's software stitches images faster than other products on the
market.

The Microtek Scooter is TWAIN compliant and includes optical character
recognition software for accurate interpretation of the text image. It has
an adjustable scanning operation that allows for manual or automatic
scanning and an adjustable thumb wheel for brightness control.

The Scooter fits in the palm of your hand, is compact and weighs under 5
pounds.

System Requirements

The Microtek Scooter requires an IBM PC or AT, 386, 486 or compatible
system, 4MB of RAM and Microsoft Windows 3.1.

Pricing and Availability

The Scooter will retail for $549 and will be available in late July through
authorized Microtek dealers and distributors.
