VISUAL BALER ANNOUNCED AT PC EXPO NEW YORK

Spreadsheet-based Visual Development Tool Creates Stand-alone Windows
Programs

New York New York (June 29, 1993) -- Baler Software Corporation today
announced the first spreadsheet-based visual development tool for building
professional Microsoft Windows stand-alone applications. The product,
called Visual Baler, makes elegant use of the spreadsheet metaphor as the
basis for application development. For those experienced in the use of
spreadsheets like Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Excel or Borland Quattro Pro,
Visual Baler provides the shortest and most familiar route to successful
custom Windows programs. Targeted to ship in September, Visual Baler lists
for $495, including a royalty-free distribution kit.

Visual Baler combines the fun, flexible user interface design tools of
products such as Microsoft Visual Basic with the intuitive, powerful, yet
familiar spreadsheet environment. Designed for experienced spreadsheet
users as well as software developers, Visual Baler's
spreadsheet-centricity makes it the fastest way to create many GUI
applications. These applications may be for internal use or for resale
commercially. Popular uses include tax planning and preparation, job
estimation, financial models, engineering analysis, electronic forms,
budgeting, price lists, employee reports, data collection and thousands of
other analytically-oriented applications.

Unlike other visual development tools like Microsoft Visual Basic,
Microsoft Visual C++ or CA-Realizer, Visual Baler requires no knowledge of
programming languages like C or BASIC. Applications are constructed using
@functions, macro commands and other familiar spreadsheet-like components.
Furthermore, Visual Baler imports existing worksheets created with
programs like Lotus 1-2-3 to cut development time significantly.

Unlike regular spreadsheet software, Visual Baler outputs professional,
stand-alone, secure, Windows applications, not templates. Users may
conveniently distribute these custom programs with no additional software
or royalties required. In addition, Visual Baler sports an array of
developer-oriented tools like automatic help file creation not found in
regular spreadsheets.

"As a result," according to Ron Reimann, President, "we're enabling the ten
million people who are familiar with spreadsheets to radically reduce
their learning curve when it comes time to write their first stand-alone
Windows program. And the very nature of the spreadsheet metaphor makes
Visual Baler excel as a development platform for stand-alone analytical
applications."

Baler Software pioneered the idea of spreadsheet-based development tools
five years ago with an award-winning line of DOS-based spreadsheet
compilers. As Baler Software's first Windows product, Visual Baler builds
on this heritage by adding a visual interface editor, a spreadsheet
editor, a 3-D spreadsheet engine, wysiwyg on-screen and in printing, and
much more.

Visual Baler's design includes several notable technical achievements. A
high performance spreadsheet engine and proprietary Windows "virtual
control technology" minimizes Windows memory and resource usage to
maximize performance. The result is rapid application development of fast
applications, putting an end to the belief that all visual development
tools create slow applications that also make heavy demands on Windows
resources. Other technical highlights are noted below.

HIGHLIGHTS

Complete Solution. All tools necessary to create professional Windows
applications "from scratch" are in the box. These include the project
manager, spreadsheet editor, debugger, visual interface editor, Microsoft
help compiler, and distribution file optimizer. Extensive online
documentation puts answers a few mouse clicks away.

Much of a Custom Application is Already Built. Save development time since
Visual Baler provides an application framework. No need to write routines
for file open and save, printing publishing quality output, calculation,
input validation, context-sensitive help, or to code a data structure or
even a menu system. Modify or replace any object.

Easy to Understand Metaphor. Visual Baler consists of workbooks with tabbed
pages representing separate sheets in a 3-D spreadsheet. When an
application is completed, a single mouse click "binds" the application
into a secure distributable application that, like a perfect bound book,
can't be "taken apart."

Point and click visual interface editor. Visual Baler provides a forms
layer so spreadsheet objects and Windows controls are combined to create
clean, useable input screens with an attractive, etched appearance. The
Visual Interface Editor provides point and click design for rapid
interface creation, including check boxes, radio buttons, group boxes and
other useful controls. The right mouse button activates a compound dialog
box attribute menu for modifying the currently selected object. This makes
it easy to assign attributes to items.

Share data with other programs. Read and write the popular Lotus 1-2-3 file
formats including .wk1/.fm1 and .wk3/.fm3. Read data only from Microsoft
Excel 4.0 .xls files. Supports the Windows clipboard and DDE for sharing
data with other programs.

Built-in 3-D Spreadsheet Editor. Visual Baler is not meant to replace a
user's favorite spreadsheet program, but for a development tool the editor
is surprisingly spreadsheet-like. Create and edit 3-D formulas, add
Wysiwyg formatting including lines, shading, and fonts, and use file links
and DDE. Visual Baler includes 115 (@functions and the 195-command Baler
extended macro language.

Create Lean Windows Applications. Entire Visual Baler applications often
fit on a single high-density diskette, making it easier to distribute
internally or for sale. Use of memory and Windows resources is minimized
with Visual Baler's proprietary virtual control technology.
