SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE NAMES NEW EXECUTIVE TEAM

CEO and President Join Chairman Gilman Louie to Strengthen Company's
Leadership Position in Interactive Entertainment Market

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, Las Vegas, Jan. 7, 1992--Spectrum HoloByte, a
leading developer and publisher of interactive computer entertainment,
today announced the formation of a new executive management team. In a
move calculated to strengthen the company's position as a market leader,
Patrick S. Feely will head the team as Chief Executive Officer with Barry
James Folsom as President. They join former CEO Gilman G. Louie, who has
been named Chairman.

Vinod Khosla of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Spectrum HoloByte's
principle investor, believes the new team's high level of expertise in the
technology and consumer markets ensures the company's continued growth in
1993 and beyond. "As the computer-entertainment market shifts to a
consumer market, experienced management is vital to maintaining and
building the company as a leader in both technology and merchandising,"
said Khosla. "With its management team in place, Spectrum HoloByte is
unique in having such a diverse and proven mix of expertise."

As CEO, Patrick Feely will be responsible for the company's overall
operations with concentration in finance, sales and marketing. Mr. Feely's
10-plus years of toplevel executive management include President of Bandai
of America; President of Tonka Toys Products, where he was instrumental in
introducing Sega products to the American market; and Vice President,
Marketing Services and Administration of Mattel Inc. Mr. Feely holds a BA
in psychology from Duke University and an MBA from the University of
Michigan.

Incoming President Barry James Folsom brings a wealth of experience in the
software engineering and computer industries having served as
CEO/President of hardware-giant Radius Inc. While at Radius, Mr. Folsom
led the company's growth in revenues by 47 percent within a 12-month
period, boosting sales to $155 million. Prior to Radius, Mr. Folsom was
Vice President/General Manager at Sun Microsystems. Mr. Folsom's
concentration will be in Spectrum HoloByte's research-and-development arm
and its affiliated label program and operations. He holds a BS in
electrical engineering and MS in Computer Science from Georgia Institute
of Technology.

Spectrum HoloByte founder Gilman Louie will now serve as Chairman. His
primary focus will be in seeking new investment opportunities for the
company. An acknowledged pioneer in the computer-game industry, Mr. Louie
founded software development house Nexa Corporation which merged with
publisher Spectrum HoloByte of Colorado in 1986 to form Sphere Inc. As
Chairman and CEO of Sphere, he led the company's growth from revenues of
$2 million in 1987 to $14 million in 1992.

Spectrum HoloByte Inc., a developer and manufacturer of interactive
computer simulation and video-games software, was formed in September 1992
when Sphere Inc. financed its independence from former controlling holders
SWICO, a charitable trust. Key investors include Kleiner Perkins Caufield
& Byers, Integral Partners, AT&T Ventures Corporation and Stanford
University.

Spectrum HoloByte is best known for its products Falcon, the popular F-16
flight simulation, and Tetris, the famous game of falling blocks. Spectrum
HoloByte has a long-term agreement with Edison Brothers of St. Louis to
develop software for consumer-based virtual-reality technology. Most
recently, the company entered into an agreement with Paramount Pictures
which provides Spectrum HoloByte the exclusive license to produce computer
and video games using the name and characters from the hit television
series "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Spectrum HoloByte is a privately
held corporation.
