ANDERSEN CONSULTING'S FOUNDATION CLIENT/SERVER CASE TOOL NOW SUPPORTS
CREATION OF WINDOWS CLIENTS

Florida Power Builds Advanced Energy Audio Application

CHICAGO, Feb. 1, 1993 -- Andersen Consulting's FOUNDATION software
organization today announced its FOUNDATION for Cooperative Processing
(FCP) client/server application development product now can create
enterprise-wide systems that incorporate Windows-based personal computers,
allowing organizations to leverage their investments in Windows.

FOUNDATION customers can deploy Windows clients within strategic
client/server applications, rather than discrete departmental systems that
are not tied in with the enterprise. The new Windows capability advances
FOUNDATlON's ongoing client/server product strategy, which is to develop
enterprise-wide systems that accommodate the broadest range of software,
network and hardware environments.

The new capability, called Windows Client Option, is incorporated within
FCP Version 1.2, an updated version of the product that also features
performance enhancements.

"By bringing Windows workstations into the enterprise-wide systems
environment, we are helping customers leverage their existing investments
-- a key benefit of our approach to client/server computing," said Don
Dall, Managing Director of Andersen Consulting's FOUNDATION. "In addition,
accommodating the growing Windows user community is an important step
toward realizing our mission of supporting client/server development for
heterogeneous environments."

According to Framingham, Mass.-based International Data Corp., Windows
accounted for more than 28 percent of all desktop operating systems
shipped in 1992, with Windows running on a total of more than 15 million
desktop PCs.

With FCP Version 1.2, users can automatically generate enterprise-wide
client/server applications -- from the same design specifications -- for
both the Windows Version 3.1 and OS/2 Presentation Manager environments.
At generation time, users can select the Windows radio button to generate
Windows clients, and can provide the application with both PM and Windows
user interfaces.

FOUNDATION also announced today that Florida Power Corporation is now
on-line with its first client/server application built using FCP. The
advanced energy audit application, which automates how field auditors
perform and report energy efficiency analyses, takes particular advantage
of FCP's new Windows Client Option.

"FCP's Windows client capability was critical for developing our new energy
audit application, which needed to take advantage of our existing PC
hardware," said Mitch Hull, Manager of Florida Power's Customer Service
Development. "We designed the application for more than 150 field
auditors, who carry laptops that run Windows. One advantage of Foundation
is the choice of deploying on either Windows or OS/2."

Florida Power is a leading electric power utility using FCP in a
three-year, $48 million strategic client/server development project to
revamp and revitalize their customer service system.

FCP Version 1.2 also offers other portability and performance enhancements,
such as improved application programming interfaces (APl's) for moving
between OS/2 and Windows environments; increased support for data
translation between C and COBOL; and new configuration and security
features for improving CICS program development and streamlining
communications between CICS servers and OS/2 or Windows.

FCP moves beyond the development of graphical user interfaces and supports
the construction of enterprise-wide client/server information systems. Its
powerful features -- including distribution services, data translation and
data routing -- shield developers from the complex communications tasks
required for developing systems that share processing and data across
servers and workstations.

FOUNDATION for Cooperative Processing was introduced in January 1991, and
has been implemented at more than 50 sites, including Mortgage Guaranty
Insurance Corporation, the State of North Carolina and British Columbia
Gas.

The integrated FOUNDATION products, which also support development of
mainframe-based information systems, support the entire software
development life cycle and are among the most widely installed application
development environments worldwide.

The FOUNDATION software organization also provides a comprehensive set of
services and training targeted at helping companies plan, design and
implement enterprise-wide client/server information systems. These
services include its Cooperative Application Development School, a
four-day training session covering everything from cooperative
architectures and hands-on product training to partitioning of data and
processing and message design.

FOUNDATION also offers its Starter Kit, a low-cost suite of tools, training
and support services designed to help develop pilot client/server systems
before expanding implementation and migration throughout an organization.
In addition, FOUNDATION provides CASE Enablement Services, covering CASE
implementation issues, such as cultural change management, structured
technique adoption and pilot project selection.

FCP Version 1.2 is available immediately through FOUNDATION direct sales
organization, operating from Andersen Consulting's more than 150 offices
worldwide.

Andersen Consulting has helped organizations apply technology competitively
since 1954, when it installed the first computer application for
commercial use. The firm helps clients use technology in all phases of
their management activities -- strategic, operations and financial.
Andersen Consulting's worldwide client base has access to more than 21,000
high trained consultants serving clients through 151 offices in 46
countries.
