Weitek Power 9000 User Interface Processor Crushes Competitors In Leading
Publications' System Comparisons

Winner of PC Magazine Editor's Choice Award Drops S3 in Favor of Weitek

SUNNYVALE, Calif., February 24, 1993--PC Magazine and PC/Computing
recognized the Weitek Power 9000 user-interface processor's spectacular
performance over competitors in recent comparisons of systems based on 66
MHz 486DX2 personal computer systems.

PC Magazine gave the Weitek Power 9000 user-interface processor credit for
"dazzling video performance" in the ZEOS model 486DX2-66 in the
publication's latest comparison of 486 systems, which included machines by
more than 70 vendors. The ZEOS 486DX2-66, the only tested system powered
by the Weitek Power 9000 user interface processor, easily emerged as the
top graphics performer among the competing systems.

On PC Magazine's Winmark 3.1 scale for measuring graphics performance, the
ZEOS system, which uses the Weitek Power 9000 in a VL local-bus
configuration, scored more than twice as high as its nearest competitor--a
VL-bus configured chip by ATI Technologies Inc. The Power 9000's
performance advantage was even greater when compared with processors from
S3 Inc., Tseng Labs Inc., and Western Digital Corp. In fact, the Weitek
Power 9000's score of 42.64 megapixels was nearly four times higher than
the previous best ever performance on the Winmark scale.

Further recognition of the Weitek Power 9000's unsurpassed graphics
performance came from Micron Computers Inc., formerly Edge Technology,
which won the coveted Editor's Choice award for its 466VL Magnum in the PC
Magazine systems comparison. Micron has chosen to replace the system's
original video card with a Weitek Power 9000-based Viper card from Diamond
Computer Systems Inc. By doing so, Micron remedied the only flaw editors
noted in the Magnum's design: "Only the DOS video score was low, a
characteristic of the S3 graphics accelerator," they wrote.

David Bates, vice president of marketing at Diamond Computer Systems Inc.,
said, "Our Viper accelerator boards have received a tremendous response in
the marketplace, largely because vendors like ZEOS, Compuadd and Micron
recognize the value of the Weitek Power 9000. Viper boards set new
standards for Windows enhancement, and the Weitek Power 9000 user
interface controller is at the heart of its tremendous graphics
performance."

PC/Computing, which awarded the ZEOS 486DX-66 "Best Value" honors in its
March 1993 issue, also acknowledged the Weitek Power 9000's contribution
to system performance. The ZEOS machine "proved particularly fast at
handling video-intensive tasks," the magazine reported.

Greg Herrick, Chairman and CEO of ZEOS International, said the company is
proud of the 486DX2-66's standing in the recent magazine surveys, and that
the Weitek Power 9000 played an important part in the system's success.
"Users of 66 MHz 486 DX2 machines demand the utmost in performance," he
said, "so we built a system that includes only the best components. When
it comes to user interface controllers, the Weitek Power 9000 is the
logical choice."

Both PC Magazine and PC/Computing measure graphics performance using the
Winmark 3.1 benchmark scale. which is a part of Ziff-Davis Labs'
proprietary WinBench 7.0 benchmarking system for evaluating systems
running Microsoft Windows. The Winmark scale measures graphics performance
as an aggregate of many common graphics functions.

In the unprecedented graphics performance provided by PC Magazine the Power
9000 was a key to the ZEOS system's off-the-chart position on the "Bang
for the Buck" performance index. Editor Brad Grimes wrote that the system
"blew away our Windows graphics test routines."

Bob Butchko, Weitek's director of marketing, attributed the Weitek Power
9000's high level of acceptance to evolving user needs: "Today's
Windows-based desktop systems require sophisticated graphics processors
that historically belonged only to engineering workstations. With the
Power 9000, Weitek draws upon its expertise in the workstation arena to
deliver unsurpassed Windows performance."

The Weitek Power 9000 can be configured for EISA, VL-bus and PCI-bus
implementations and is priced at $70 in quantities of 1,000 units.

Weitek Corporation makes processors and controllers that enhance the
performance of standard operating systems, user interfaces and application
software. The company's products are used to build faster, more intuitive
desktop computers and peripherals.
