NEW WIRELESS LAN PRODUCTS LINK BUILDINGS AND PCs
Solectek's AIRLAN Products Begin Shipping

Most Comprehensive Product Line in Wireless LAN Industry

SAN DIEGO, March 29, 1993 -- Solectek Corp. announced today that the
company has begun shipping three new wireless LAN solutions which can be
used to link PC networks without cable restrictions. Solectek's AIRLAN
products provide seamless Ethernet compatibility between wired and
wireless networks, and are designed to expand existing networks within, or
between, buildings difficult or expensive to cable:

AIRLAN/Bridge provides wireless network connectivity between buildings up
to three miles away at a fraction of the cost of installing and
maintaining a T1 line. It is particularly effective in quickly linking
multiple buildings in campus environments, while eliminating costly
cabling projects or monthly T1 service fees.

AIRLAN/Internal are wireless network adapters designed to easily extend
wired Ethernet networks within a building. Available in AT and Micro
Channel versions, these wireless network adapters support all major
client-server and peer-to-peer operating systems. Once installed, all the
functions and services of a wired workstation are available to each AIRLAN
workstation.

AIRLAN/Hub is a wireless concentrator which provides added range and
versatility when extending a cabled network with AIRLAN/Internal adapters.
It can be used to integrate multiple topologies with AIRLAN wireless
workgroups, and to eliminate wireless distance limitations.

Proven Spread Spectrum RF Technology

The AIRLAN product family utilizes advanced spread spectrum radio
technology. Originally developed for secure military communications, this
technology uses radio frequency waves to transmit information between the
connected PCs at speeds of two megabits per second, and at distances of up
to 800 feet in most applications. Spread spectrum technology differ from
other wireless technologies in that it can penetrate walls, ceilings and
floors. Spread spectrum signal characteristics also provide data security
and immunity from adverse weather conditions.

Each AIRLAN product provides standard Ethernet error checking, and is
compatible with Ethernet and Token Ring topologies. For maximum security,
an optional 64 bit DES encryption chip is available.

AIRLAN Software Ensures NOS Compatibility

Designed to function without operator assistance, Solectek's AirBridge and
AirHub software relays frames between LANs at the MAC layer as described
in the IEEE 802.1D standard. This enables the bridge and hub to be
compatible with any of the many network operating systems which use the
Ethernet data structure.

AIRLAN/Internal adapters comply with the most pervasive networking
standard, IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, and are compatible with the many host-based
and peer-to-peer network operating systems, including: Novell NetWare,
NetWare Lite, Microsoft LAN Manager, Banyan Vines and DEC Pathworks (via
AIRLAN/Hub), and Artisoft LANtastic (available 6/93).

Pricing and Availability

AIRLAN/Bridge, AIRLAN/Hub and AIRLAN/Internal begin shipping this month and
are available from leading distributors and retail stores worldwide.

AIRLAN/Bridge's suggested retail price of $4,999 includes a 13" x 16"
chassis with connections for thin Ethernet coax and 10BaseT, user's
manual, and Solectek's AirBridge data link software. An omni-directional
antenna for reliable bridge connections of 500 feet is included. For
longer distances between buildings, a four element YAGI antenna (1 mile)
or a 10 element YAGI antenna (3 miles) may be purchased separately.
Solectek also provides an optional outdoor omni-directional antenna used
when linking multiple buildings to one central location.

Solectek will market AIRLAN/Internal Starter Kits to first-time buyers with
all the elements required for the start-up installation of an AIRLAN
Wireless Network. Available for $1,899, each Starter Kit includes two
AIRLAN/Internal adapters, library of workstation drivers, and required
AIRLAN server installation software.

Individual AIRLAN/Internal cards may be purchased separately to add
wireless workstations to an existing AIRLAN Starter Kit network. Available
for a suggested retail price of $799, each add-on adapter includes an
integrated radio transceiver, a small antenna, and accompanying
workstation driver software only.

AIRLAN/Hub's suggested retail price of $4,799 includes a 13"x 16" chassis,
AIRHUB software, user-manual, and omni-directional antenna with a range up
to 800 feet. Each AIRLAN/Hub unit provides connections for thin Ethernet
coax and 10BaseT. The minimum configuration requires one hub unit to be
installed on the wired backbone. All wireless workstations communicate
with the hub. No server installation is required.

Solectek Corporation, a privately held company, is a leading manufacturer
of data communication and wireless network products. Solectek's product
line also features AIRLAN/Parallel wireless adapter which attaches
externally to any IBM-compatible personal computer. Available this Spring,
the portable adapter makes possible mobile and temporary local area
network connections. The company is headquartered at 6370 Nancy Ridge
Drive, San Diego, CA 92121. Telephone: (619) 450-1220.
