Database addition will make CADPIPE the most comprehensive PC plant design
package available

March 15, 1993 -- At the A/E/C Systems '93 show in Anaheim, CA,
International Software Systems Inc. will be presenting version 3.0 of the
CADPIPE ORTHO, ISO, P&ID/FORMS and ELECTRICAL modules.

One of CADPIPE 3.0's main features is the addition of a flanged fittings
and lined pipe database that has been incorporated in the ANSI database
for use with CADPIPE ORTHO and ISO. The flanged fittings database makes it
possible for CADPIPE to now support designers who require corrosion
resistant plastic lined piping systems such as PTFEs
(polytetrafluoroethylene) for handling caustic and high purity fluids.
That is, designers requiring pipe that can be easily replaced where wear
is a factor.

The flanged fittings database allows the user to define flanged piping
systems, lined or unlined. It also allows flexibility in the lining of
flanged fittings over and above the standard PFTE lined flanged fittings
for concrete or neoprene lined pipe. CADPIPE's user-definable lining
thickness enables the user to include a compressed lining thickness; the
BOM (Bill of Material) will show the actual lining thickness, whereas the
design on the drawing itself will include the compressed lining thickness
dimension. For example, with neoprene lined pipe, you might have a 3/8"
lining which, when compressed, may reduce to 1/4". Using this feature,
designers create exact construction drawings and have accurate BOMs at the
same time. When a lining extends over the flange face, the system will
calculate the correct bolt length based on the compressed lining
thickness.

Users can pre-define maximum and minimum pipe lengths for flanged systems
with the flanged fittings database. CADPIPE provides an option for working
out non-standard pipe lengths, the user can choose from two algorithms to
automatically determine the type of placement for pipe lengths.

This new database encompasses all types of flanged fittings, including
cast-iron flanged fittings, and permits designers to use spacers from
normal to tapered, including reducing filler flanges. Designers will
welcome the cost-effectiveness of using tapered spacers instead of trimmed
elbows for the smaller angled piping offsets. This database also includes
instrument tees which permit an instrument connection between flanges, and
it contains flanged pipe fittings in accordance with ANSI B16.1, B16.5 and
B16.42.

The flanged fittings database will be fully supported by other CADPIPE PLUS
programs such as SPEC GENERATOR and AUTO-ISO.

Barry Morris, Manager of Engineering and Development for ISS, notes: "The
addition of the flanged fittings database puts CADPIPE in the unique
position of being the most comprehensive PC piping package available, and
it greatly increases our current competitive advantage." He continued:
"CADPIPE's ANSI database now includes fittings for Threaded,
Socket-Welded, ButtWelded, Flanged, Lined, Plastic and Fibreglass
Reinforced Piping systems."

In addition to the new database, CADPIPE ORTHO version 3.0's new features
include an increased use of extended entity data in the linkage and
identification of individual components within the CADPIPE system. This
has made it possible to improve the integrity of all the fittings or
components of a drawing by making them unique. For example, if a fitting
were to pass behind a steel column, the designer can trim out invisible.
Any remaining portions of that fitting are still recognized by the system
as one component fitting. CADPIPE's new [ERASE FITTING] command ensures
that all information nodes and associated data with a fitting are removed
all at once with one pick on any portion of the fitting. CADPIPE ORTHO 3.0
also offers m copying fittings.

With the "layers-by-specification" feature of ORTHO 3.0, designers can
isolate specific piping specifications (for example, a fuel gas system) by
assigning different colours and layers to suit that specification. By
using the CADPIPE lock layers by specification command which utilizes the
AutoCAD Release 12 layer locking facility, the designer can simply select
items on layers that he wishes to remain unlocked, or simply reset to
unlock all layers. You can easily change items on a specific routing line
by specification without fear of affecting other lines located close by
with a different specification. The designer can modify the piping layout
using AutoCAD's editing commands. ISS's dedication to providing an
intelligent plant design system lets the designer change only what he
wants to change.

ORTHO 3.0 also features a double-line, single-line automatic setting by
size as per your company standards. For example, if the designer were to
specify double-line piping from 10" and up, and then change from a 6" to
14" line size, the system would change automatically from single to
double-line mode.

The AUTO-SECTION command for ORTHO 3.0 has been expanded by user-request to
include equipment nozzles, PSVs, angle, 3-way and 4-way valves, unions,
and couplings.

CADPIPE ISO 3.0 will include, in addition to the flanged fittings database,
automatic dimensioning features and the ability to easily edit the
position and isometric plane of previously placed dimensions. These new
editing features also apply to offset dimensions.

ISO 3.0 also has an automatic valve tagging feature that is unique to
CADPIPE; you are prompted to tag the valve with a tag read from the
specification. If you are designing before you have the tag information,
you can place the valve, and then later automatically "back annotate"
it--with the tag read from the specification. This helps to eliminate user
error.

CADPIPE P&ID 3.0 now supports valve ends enabling the designer to use
different blocks or valve symbols for different end
types--automatically--with the SPEC GENERATOR.

P&ID 3.0 has a "Move Line Segment" utility which moves a line segment and
all the data on it to any position. P&ID also includes automatic line
breaks which are customizable by the user, and it now allows the designer
to convert a manual valve to a control valve by adding an actuator. The
converted control valve will be reported as a control valve within the
BOM.

CADPIPE ELECTRICAL 3.0 now works with a mouse, and is AutoCAD Release 12
compatible.

CADPIPE 3.0 is available in metric and imperial versions and is compatible
with AutoCAD Release 11 and 12. The following databases can also be
purchased for use with CADPIPE: ANSI, BRITISH STANDARDS, AFNOR, DIN, JIS,
Polish and Czechoslovakian.

Another important product featured in our A/E/C booth will be CADPIPE
INTERact. Barry Morris, using expertise gathered over the past year
through working closely with the product's first customers, will be
presenting a paper as part of the Autodesk '93 conference program. His
paper, "CADPIPE INTERact: The Solution to Your PSM Requirements for OSHA
1910.119," will introduce a whole new concept in PSM (Process Safety
Management) using the P&ID as a graphical interface. CADPIPE INTERact, for
electronic document and facilities management, is a program on the leading
edge of the technology being designed to meet the OSHA 1910.119 demands.
Mr. Morris' discussion will include automatic extraction from P&IDs and
linking of related information.
