SYBASE ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR IBM'S DRDA DISTRIBUTED UNIT OF WORK

Extends Sybase's Commitment to Interoperability and Support for Standards

EMERYVILLE, CA, March 16,1993 -- Sybase, Inc. today announced that it will
use IBM's Distributed Relational Database Architecture to support
distributed unit of work access between IBM databases, and SYBASE SQL
Server, Open Client and Open Server applications. Sybase has licensed the
DRDA architecture from IBM.

"Sybase believes that customer solutions for the distributed enterprise
will have multiple requirements including reliable data replication and
transparent data access for both OLTP and decision support applications,"
said Stewart Schuster, Sybase vice president of marketing. "We have
licensed the DRDA architecture to tie IBM relational data more closely
into our customers' enterprise client/server applications."

DRDA is IBM's published architecture that provides connectivity among
RDBMSs that run in either like or unlike environments. DRDA supports
Structured Query Language (SQL) as the standard interface that
applications use to access distributed relational data.

Support for DRDA distributed unit of work will enhance Sybase's
interoperability capabilities with IBM's relational products, including
DB2, SQL/DS and the AS/400.

SYBASE products run on a wide range of hardware, including IBM computers,
ranging from PCs running DOS to the IBM RISC System/6000 running AIX to
IBM MVS mainframes. The companies have had formal technology and marketing
agreements in place since 1989. Sybase, Inc.
