U.S. ROBOTICS ENHANCES SHARED ACCESS LAN MODEM WITH DYNAMIC ACCESS
SWITCHING

SKOKIE, Ill., -- March 1, 1993 -- U. S. Robotics, Inc. today announced the
addition of Dynamic Access Switching (DAS) to the Shared Access LAN modem.
Shared Access Communication Server 386 and now LAN modem contain U.S.
Robotics' exclusive, seamless switching feature.

With Dynamic Access Switching, users get the unique flexibility to switch
"on-the-fly" between dial-out and two dial-in modes: remote control and
single-node routing. Shared Access Communication Server 386 and LAN modem
empower the user with the ability to choose the best mode for his needs at
connection time. DAS eliminates LAN administrator interference and
hardware resets--making dial LAN access easy to use, maintain and
support.

"One of the major problems LAN managers face when trying to provide dial
access to or from their LANs is that the current solutions only solve part
of the problem," said Jonathan Zakin, U. S. Robotics executive vice
president of sales and marketing. "A typical LAN user will want to dial in
and out of their LAN using one piece of hardware and switch between remote
control, for data intensive applications, and single node routing, for
easy access in or non-data intensive applications. DAS provides the
flexibility and intelligence that solves all these problems in one, small,
easy-to-configure and support box. "

U.S. Robotics' Shared Access line offers reliable, easy dial LAN access and
modem sharing for any size LAN. The Communication Server 386 and LAN modem
are the only products available that provide both remote control and
single-node routing.

Shared Access LAN modem is the lowest-cost, 2-port network modem that
connects to any Novell LAN. This high-performance solution supports two
simultaneous dial sessions, so heavy dial traffic is not a problem. While
LAN modem gives users both dial-in options, remote control and single-node
routing, it lends itself best to single-node routing applications.

Shared Access Communication Server 386 is a stand-alone, flexible,
single-port communications server that connects directly to any Novell
LAN. Communication Server 386 contains a built-in 386 SX PC dedicated to
dial access. Users can run applications directly on the Communication
Server 386 PC. It's always available for a dial-in remote control call.

The key to Shared Access Communication Server 386 and LAN modem, and their
primary strength, is the U. S. Robotics modem. All Shared Access products
have a U. S. Robotics V.32bis modem with ASL (Adaptive Speed Leveling) as
their core technology. These modems send data at 14,400 bits per second
and, with data compression, can achieve throughput of 57,600 bits per
second. In addition, Shared Access products are upgradable to the pending
28,800 bits per second CCITT "V.FAST" standard.

Based on U.S. Robotics' award-winning Courier modem technology, every
Shared Access product guarantees quality, reliability and great
performance. Shared Access products are built as complete, integrated
products, making vendor support and service easy. Both the Communication
Server 386 and LAN modem are now shipping.
