Apple and Siemens Announce Strategic Telecommunications Cooperation Based
on Newton Technologies

First Collaboration Will Combine Newton Technology With Siemens and ROLM
Telephony

CUPERTINO, California--March 11, 1993 - Apple Computer, Inc. and Siemens
Private Communication Systems Group today announced their plans to combine
certain Apple technologies with Siemens and ROLM telephony capabilities.
The areas of cooperation are intended to include: equipping business and
consumer telephones with Apple's Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
technology; wireless technology; integrated voice-data solutions for call
centers; and personal productivity solutions.

Siemens anticipates that the first result of the Apple-Siemens
collaboration will be NotePhone, from Siemens and ROLM. This new
technology is planned to be demonstrated for the first time, publicly, at
the CeBIT Fair in Hanover, Germany on March 25. The NotePhone project will
combine Siemens and ROLM telephony and Apple's Newton technology to
provide access to telephone and fax features. By incorporating Siemens
telephony capabilities and Newton technology, the companies anticipate
that users will be able to both carry out telephone transactions easily
and spontaneously, and access messaging and information services. Siemens
and ROLM anticipate providing NotePhones for standard (analog) telephone
lines commonly found in homes and in hotels, as well as for digital
business communications systems from Siemens and ROLM for enhanced
functionality and business productivity.

"As the leading provider of private telecommunications systems, Siemens and
its U.S. subsidiary, ROLM, provide telecommunications expertise and market
presence that will complement our existing technologies and marketing
efforts worldwide," said Michael Spindler, president and chief operating
officer of Apple. "Siemens and ROLM's advanced telecommunications
technology combined with Apple's ability to make sophisticated computer
technology useful and accessible makes perfect sense for this cooperative
venture."

"Apple is one of the most innovative designers of personal computing
products in the world," said Peter Pribilla, president of both Siemens
Private Communication Systems Group and ROLM. "With Newton, Apple has
taken a leadership role in PDA technology and its innovative features for
noncomputer users. We plan to leverage this technology for Siemens
personal communications services."

Headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., Apple is a leading supplier of
computing technologies to consumer, education, business, and government
markets worldwide. A recognized pioneer and innovator in the personal
computer industry, Apple has been named first in customer satisfaction
among business computer users in the United States for the past two years
by J.D. Powers and Associates.

Siemens Private Communication Systems Group is the world leader in private
telecommunications systems with more than 400,000 customers and 900,000
systems installed worldwide. ROLM, a Siemens Company, is a leading
supplier of telecommunications products and applications in the United
States. As a worldwide entity, Siemens AG employs more than 400,000 people
and had sales exceeding $49 billion in FY 1991-92.
