CHEYENNE ANNOUNCES ARCSERVE 5.0 FOR NETWARE-WINDOWS EDITION

Cheyenne's Next Generation Enterprise-Wide Storage Management Backup and
Restore Product

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, NEW YORK, April 27, 1993 - - - Cheyenne Software, Inc.
(AMEX:CYE) announced today ARCserve 5.0 for NetWare-Windows Edition, the
next generation of the industry's leading client/server backup and
recovery software suitable for single-server or large multi-server Novell
NetWare enterprises.

Enhancements to ARCserve 5.0, such as the "point and click"
Windows-interface, based on the source and destination paradigm, and the
improved Quick Start, a one step backup command, will further strengthen
its leadership position as a high-performance, yet simple to use data
management solution.

In making the announcement, Jim McNiel, Vice President of Business
Development for Cheyenne stated, "ARCserve 5.0 meets the needs of the
largest local area network (LAN) through centralized management of
distributed backup operations. For example, one file server loaded with
three high-performance tape drives can back up 50 gigabytes of distributed
LAN data in a twelve hour period. Twenty of these machines could back up
an entire terabyte overnight, while managed from one central location."

Local area networks are now storing hundreds, and in some cases thousands,
of gigabytes of critical corporate information. Protecting this
information through consistent backup operations to tape, has become
increasingly more difficult as a result of the performance limitations of
hardware currently available to the LAN user. Responding to this growing
concern, Cheyenne's ARCserve 5.0 provides users with the highest
performance level of data management and protection services available
today.

To achieve this level of sophistication, the following features have been
incorporated into ARCserve 5.0:

* Parallel Streaming - This high performance function allows ARCserve to
perform concurrent operations on up to seven tape devices on a single SCSI
adapter. Multiple backup and restore jobs can be scheduled to process
simultaneously, thereby dramatically expanding the throughput of the
system and allowing users to backup and restore greater amounts of data in
less time.

* Tape Cascading - Augmenting ARCserve's existing automation capabilities
is Tape Cascading, which allows ARCserve 5.0 to continue a backup
operation on successive tape drives when the existing tape reaches
capacity, eliminating the need for extensive tape handling.

* Stacker and Changer Support - ARCserve's optional changer and stacker
modules, coupled with a supported autochanger device, provides fully
automated, high capacity data storage management, further automating tape
management.

Cheyenne has minimized the complexities typically associated with a backup
and recovery operation by introducing a new Windows-interface in ARCserve
5.0.

" Next Generation" Graphical User Interface (GUI) - A fundamental "point
and click" paradigm, coupled with an enterprise view, which greatly
simplifies the task of performing a backup and recovery operation.

ARCserve 5.0 is the first data management solution capable of backup and
restoration of all major operating systems available in the PC
marketplace.

Heterogeneous Environment Support - ARCserve provides data management and
protection to all clients and servers on the Novell network. In addition
to ARCserve's inherent support for DOS, Windows, and OS/2 clients,
optional Agents for Macintosh and UNIX clients are available.

On-Line Database Backup - The Database option (DBagent) further enhances
ARCserve's capabilities, providing backup for on-line mission-critical
databases on the network.

Cheyenne has also implemented a Product Line Integration strategy which
combines key network services including data management, virus protection,
and communications.

ARCserve, InocuLAN and FAXserve - Cheyenne has developed links between its
products to provide network users access to key services, as well as
improved functionality. For example, ARCserve 5.0 can use InocuLAN,
Cheyenne's enterprise-wide anti-virus software solution, to perform a
virus scan prior to backing up data. The integration of ARCserve 5.0 and
InocuLAN 2.0 NLMs ensures that the current backup is virus-free. ARCserve
5.0 also links with Cheyenne's automated server-based facsimile solution,
FAXserve. The combined utilization of these products provides users with
the ability to send vital reports generated by ARCserve, via FAXserve,
remotely to a destination of their choice.

"Network storage management products have become a valuable addition to
enter operating systems such as NetWare 4.0," stated Mr. McNiel. He also
noted, "Cheyenne products assure that mission critical data is backed up
securely and efficiently, as well as daily management of departmental and
corporate work groups and enterprise-wide heterogeneous networks."

Among the other features available in ARCserve 5.0 are:

Tape Rotation Management - ARCserve's Auto Pilot Tape Rotation Strategy
utilizes the "Grandfather, Father, Son" discipline traditionally used in
large MIS environments.

File Tracking System - A Btrieve indexed record manager has been
implemented in ARCserve 5.0 to enhance the File Tracking Systems (FTS) and
Auto Pilot.

Storage Management Services (SMS) - As a Novell Co-developer, Cheyenne
supports the SMS specification in ARCserve 5.0. ARCserve users are assured
migration to new versions of NetWare with SMS.

ARCserve 5.0 supports most of the industry standard tape devices, including
optical, 4mm DAT, 8mm, QIC, stackers and autoloaders. All devices
certified for ARCserve 4.0 are compatible with ARCserve 5.0.

ARCserve 5.0 will be available in stratified versions based on 5, 20/25, 50
and 250 NetWare user levels at U.S. retail prices of $395, $1,395, $1,695
and $2,395 respectively. Five hundred and 1000 NetWare user levels will
also be available.

Current ARCserve 4.0 customers can upgrade to ARCserve 5.0 at no cost if
ARCserve was purchased between March 15 and June 30, 1993. Upgrades will
be available to customers having purchased ARCserve 4.0 prior to March 15,
1993 for as little at $95, depending upon their NetWare user level.
ARCserve 5.0 is scheduled to begin shipping in June 1993. For information
on upgrading to ARCserve 5.0 contact 800-370-8991 (U.S. and Canada) or
