THE MATHWORKS SHIPS MATLAB VERSION 4.0 FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS

NATICK, Mass., June 7, 1993 - The MathWorks, Inc., developers of MATLAB,
today announced shipment of MATLAB Version 4.0 for Microsoft Windows
version 3.1. A powerful technical computing environment which has defined
the industry standard for high performance computation, MATLAB 4.0 has
extensive new functionality, including 256-color 3D object-oriented
visualization capabilities, sparse matrix support, sound output and
customizable user interface controls.

"We are excited to be able to offer the power of MATLAB 4.0 on a PC
platform," said John Little, The MathWorks' president and chief executive
officer. "MATLAB 4.0 for Windows features a 32-bit implementation that
allows users to take advantage of the Windows environment -- without
giving up the high performance they've come to expect from MATLAB on other
platforms."

The product also supports any Windows 3.1 sound device, allowing sampled
sounds to be manipulated and played directly from MATLAB. In addition,
users can paste MATLAB graphics into any other Windows application, either
as static bit-mapped images or editable Windows metafiles.

"These Windows-specific enhancements, together with the other features of
Version 4.0 -- a new external interface library, an improved facility for
working with external C and Fortran routines, flexible file input/output
capabilities, and enhanced debugging and programmable user interface
controls -- make MATLAB the most powerful technical computing environment
available," said Little.

MATLAB's numeric computation capabilities, 4GL programming language,
graphics, and application-specific toolboxes allow users to analyze and
visualize data, optimize engineering systems designs and algorithms, and
create mathematical models.

MATLAB toolboxes extend the product by adding specialized functions for
particular applications. These include neural networks, signal processing,
control system design and analysis, system identification and
optimization. The toolboxes are created by world class experts in their
respective fields and represent theory and algorithms at the cutting edge
of scientific and engineering research.

MATLAB 4.0 for Windows is available directly from the company, priced at
$1,695 for a single-user license. MATLAB 4.0 has been shipping since
September of 1992 on major workstation platforms, including Sun
SPARCstation, DEC RISC, HP9000 Series 300/400/700 systems, IBM RS/6000 and
Silicon Graphics IRIS 4D workstations.

The MathWorks, Inc., based in Natick, Mass., develops, markets and supports
high-performance software for interactive numeric computation,
visualization and dynamic system simulation. Its family of products
includes MATLAB Version 4.0; SIMULINK, for dynamic system modeling &
simulation; the recently announced SIMULINK C Code Generator; and the
comprehensive family of MATLAB Application Toolboxes.

The MathWorks' products are used worldwide by more than 140,000 users at
commercial and government research laboratories and organizations, as well
as by more than 600 leading educational institutions. Customers include
Boeing, General Motors, Eastman Kodak, General Electric, E.I. du Pont, and
Motorola, M.I.T., and Stanford University. Quantity and educational
discounts are available.
