SNA Server for Microsoft Windows NT Enters General Beta Testing

REDMOND, Wash.--April 27, 1993--Microsoft Corporation today announced the
release of its Microsoft SNA Server for Windows NT (New Technology) into
general beta testing. More than 500 corporations worldwide will be
participating in the beta program to help ensure that the product meets
their needs on final release, scheduled shortly after the release of the
Microsoft Windows NT operating system.

A previous phase-one beta, begun last October, was targeted at more than
100 independent software developers (ISVs) planning to integrate existing
products or to build new value-added solutions for SNA Server for Windows
NT. Many of these applications are also available from leading vendors for
beta testing with SNA Server.

SNA Server gives the Windows NT Advanced Server the connectivity into the
various IBM mainframe and minicomputer environments. Microsoft recognizes
that in order to fully enable the popular "downsizing" direction in
corporate computing with Windows NT and client-server architecture, users
must be provided all the tools for immediate coexistence and eventual
migration with the installed base of IBM mainframes and minicomputers.

SNA Server provides network users with flexible and complete connectivity
through one or many Windows NT Advanced Servers to IBM SNA networks,
connecting desktops running the Microsoft Windows, Windows NT, MS-DOS,
OS/2 and Macintosh operating systems to IBM host systems such as the IBM
ES/9000 mainframe and IBM AS/400 minicomputer families.
