ARC NOW AVAILABLE FOR UNIX

From one platform to another... It's all the same! Full Compatibility on
All Platforms

June 2, 1993 -- Germantown, MD - Data Bank Associates, Inc. (DBA) announced
that it has now released for distribution and sale the ARC program for the
88K, HP, and Coherent UNIX systems. ARC is a software product that creates
a library of compressed files. Files or programs may be added, moved,
deleted, updated, printed, or executed from the library. The ARC libraries
are compatible on UNIX, Data General AOS/VS, DOS, or OS/2 based operating
systems. Thus a file may be compressed or decompressed on any of these
platforms and used, as is, on any other platform. It is this
interchangability of the ARC libraries that provides some of its greatest
value in the world of mixed systems.

The 88K systems include Motorola's own line of UNIX computers as well as
Data General's AViiON and many other hardware vendors. The ARC program was
developed by DBA under a license from System Enhancement Associates of
Wayne, New Jersey, the original developers of the ARC program for DOS
based PCs. ARC/UX is fully compatible with level 6 of ARC on all platforms
and is capable of using the system specific information from DBA's
implementations under other operating systems. As a result, the 32
character filenames under AOS/VS are retained and used under the UNIX
operating systems.

ARC/UX retains the functionality of the DOS and AOS/VS versions while
demonstrating efficient operation in a multiuser environment. ARC/UX runs
at more than 20 times the speed of the AOS/VS version. While ARC/UX uses
the UNIX filenames, it automatically generates an "aka" (also known as)
name for the PC when the file name does not conform to PC naming
standards. Unlimited number of users can simultaneously extract or run
programs from a common ARC library.

An ARC/UX license can be purchased either as a single user version or for
unlimited mode of operation. Initial licenses include 1 year of software
subscription and hot line support. DBA is offering significant
introductory discounts as well as different price schedules for
386/486/586 type platforms like Coherent and SCO UNIX. DBA anticipates
releasing ARC/UX for the IBM, SUN SCO, NCR, and AT&T UNIX systems by July
1, 1993.
