ProtoView launches the WinControl Library

New, integrated Custom Control set enhances development of C/C++ and Pascal
applications for Windows

New York, New York - June 29,1993

ProtoView Development Corporation today announced the release of the
WinControl Library, an easy to use, versatile package of fourteen custom
controls that simplify the process of developing applications for Windows
in C/C++ or Pascal. These controls not only make it easy to use
point-and-click tools to create eye catching three-dimensional
applications, they also allow developers to quickly add functionality such
as context sensitive help, DDE links, data validation, user defined error
messages, custom colors and custom fonts. By providing developers with
powerful, ready built controls, the WinControl Library allows developers
to concentrate their efforts on developing the core functionality of their
applications.

ProtoView's WinControl Library is a robust, expandable Dynamic Link Library
of custom Windows controls that can be added to the development
environment and used with any standard dialog editor. The WinControl field
objects obtain, format and edit the data entered by users, allowing you to
quickly create highly functional, customized dialog boxes and data entry
forms.

"WinControl is the perfect add-on for any C/C++ or Pascal compiler," said
Dean Guida, president of ProtoView Development. "With the WinControl
Library the benefits of Visual Basic controls are extended to developers
of C/C++ and Pascal, increasing their productivity and reducing the time
to market for their applications."

WinControl Provides "smart" Controls

The WinControl Library also makes it easier to move and convert data
between the screen and application variables by providing "smart" controls
with the knowledge of the various data types like date, time, currency and
text that they are interfaced with. "Each control works with its own
special type of data, and knows how to convert data to and from the screen
so users don't have to," said Guida.

Get the best of both Visual Basic and C/C++

The innovative architecture of the WinControl Library combines the power
and usability of Visual Basic controls with the speed, flexibility and
diversity of C and C++ development. Now you can specify a wide range of
properties and methods for controls without the overhead of an interpreted
environment.

Standard WinControl Features

Each of the library's unique controls perform special services and
functions for application programs and dialog boxes. These controls allow
flexible data entry field formatting and easy character by character
editing capability. The Controls in the WinControl Library can:

* Fill list boxes with directory listings
* Launch programs from buttons, bitmaps and icons
* Allow the user to select from four different types of
  three-dimensional effects
* Display today's date in a control
* Provide DDE message handling
* Display tables in list and combo boxes
* Place bitmaps and icons on push buttons
* Set custom colors and fonts
* Offer clipboard and mouse support
* Provide a user defined error messages capability
* Allow the user to create context-sensitive help
* Set data validation for range checking, choice checking,
  table look-up and mandatory fields
* Set protected fields
* Automatically format entered data for numeric, real, currency
  and date controls
* Provide picture masked input formatting

Fourteen Custom Controls enhance Development

The custom controls provided in the WinControl Library include many of the
top-selling categories of controls: user interface, tables and data
validation. The following fourteen controls are provided in the WinControl
Library:

* pvBitmap Displays bitmap images along with text and can invert
  itself to provide visual feedback.
* pvButton Provides a toggle button in three different sizes that
can appear either depressed or not depressed, on or off.
* pvCBTable Automatically loads a user defined ASCII file into
  a combo box control.
* pvColor Performs color selection by allowing the user to define
a color using the Red, Green and Blue scroll bars to create
  solid and dithered colors.
* pvCurrency Used for input of currency values, including U. S.
monetary and 26 other international formats. Automatically
formats for decimal point, commas, currency symbols and
  negative signs.
* pvDate Used for the input of automatically formatted date
values plus system data display in one of six user defined
  formats.
* pvFrame3D Displays text in a frame that groups other controls
  together.
* pvIcon Displays icon graphic images with text, which can be
  inverted for visual feedback.
* pvNumeric Used to input numeric values which interface with
  three types of application variables.
* pvReal Used for input of floating point numbers which interface
with four types of application variables.
* pvString Provides character or picture masking, with many user
  defined string sequences available.
* pvTable Automatically reads, formats and loads an ASCII file
from disk into the appropriate list box configuration.
* pvText3D Displays text with three-dimensional effects.
* pvTicker Scrolls information from right to left using a timer
sequence to move the text string in real time, simulating
  a live ticker-tape.
